Round Robin Challenge: Morning, Noon, And Night

Hi, Robins! Our next Challenge, Morning, Noon, And Night, was suggested by Vicki of the blog Maraca. She describes the concept this way:

"Kinda simple, really ... photograph the same thing at different times of the day. It's an experiment in using natural light."

Looks good to me! Here's our chance to capture the many moods of the same scene as the sun rises and falls. So how about it? Will you show us the changes in mountains or oceans, towers or trees, or even people or animals, as the shadows move and disappear and return, as the light brightens and fades? And no, you don't have to photograph the scene at noon if that's not convenient. Just find the times of day and night that work best for your schedule and your photographic subject.

The Challenge date will be Saturday, July 12, anytime after midnight. Please don't post early if you can help it. And as always, please RSVP in the comments below using this format:

Hi Everyone :)

Save the date! Saturday, June 28th! That's the day we will play our next Round Robin Challenge:Weeds Can Be Beautiful Too! Kim, who authors the blog, Nekked Lizard Adventures, suggested this topic in our recent new topic roundup. If you have an idea for an upcoming challenge, feel free to send it to Karen, Steven or myself, and I will make sure it gets added to our challenge pool. :)

Ok, if you are planning to join us for the fun on the 28th, that would be great! If you haven't played with us before, you can find all the information you need on the sidebar of this blog. Just click on the **WELCOME ENTRY AND RULES OF PLAY**. If you have played before, you already know what to do.

NOTE: My usual update and blog visiting time is between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM Pacific Time on the day of each challenge, however, on the 28th I have birthday plans, and will be leaving at 3:00 PM for dinner, so, if possible, try to post your entry before 3:00 PM that day so I can be sure to get you all updated properly in the afternoon before I leave. Round Robin Challenge: Tiny Things

Hello again, Robins! I went diving in our suggestion pool today, and I'm glad to report that it's positively overflowing with cool topics right now. We're also starting to see some reruns and recurring themes, with different people coming up with similar ideas, sometimes the same day! I'm sure we'll get to many of these topics in the weeks and months ahead.

For this particular Challenge, though, we're going with one that was suggested by, well, me! Way back in September 2007, I came up with the following:

Tiny Things

The idea here is to photograph very small inanimate objects - not details and closeups of larger things, but self-contained little items we see and take for granted. It should be interesting to take the expertise some Robins have with tiny critters, and apply it to objects that can't fly away. And the rest of us have the photographic challenge of learning to focus on the miniature world.

Eight months later, though, I'm thinking it was probably rash of me to exclude tiny living things, or things that were once alive. So if you want to photograph a bee, a beetle or a baby guppy, be my guest!

The date for this Challenge is Saturday, May 31st, 2008. As always, we ask you not to post before that date, whenever it arrives where you live. You may post up to six days later, but for the sake of people finding your entry, on the date is best.

Round Robin Challenge: Norwegian Wood

Hi Robins :) This Challenge Is Now Closed. Thanks for Playing!

WOW! We received some terrific suggestions yesterday, from you guys, for some upcoming RR challenges! Excellent! A job well done! One of those fabulous suggestions, jumped out at me and screamed, "Pick Me, PICK ME!" Well, actually, all of the new suggestions did that, LOL. But since I could choose only one idea for this challenge, I went with one of the suggestions made to us by Kiva, who authors the blog, "Eclectic Granny." Here is what Kiva says about this challenge...

I'm into a Beatles mood this week.
Norwegian Wood - take a photo of anything wooden.
Merriam Webster defines the word "wooden" as: 1. made or consisting of wood. 2. lacking ease or flexibility, awkwardly stiff (e.g., wooden performer, a wooden speech). A picture of John Wooden or anyone named Wooden qualifies.

I can imagine a lot that can be done with this challenge, so lets all put on our creative helmets, grab our cameras, and meet back here on Saturday, May 17th, 2008, ready to show each other what we discovered for the this challenge. As always you can post anytime between the midnights of that day, or, if you know you are going to be late, you can post an entry up to one week past the challenge date. If you know you will be late, just drop us an email, or make a note next to your name when you R.S.V.P. your intention to play. That way folks will have a better chance of finding you, when your entry is posted. Sound good?

Round Robin Challenge: Your One Perfect Scene Captioned

For our next challenge I thought it might be fun to try something a little different. So, lets take a departure from the ordinary, and branch out a little further into the creative. How does the assignment, Your Perfect Scene Captioned, grab ya?

Here's the idea. Grab your cameras, venture forth into the world, and find that one perfect scene in the viewfinder. Photograph it, and then name it. The one perfect scene could be in black and white or color. You can use special props provided by your photo editing program, and it can be of anything you are inspired to photograph. Want it to be exotic? Go for it. Want it to be surreal? Cool, can't wait to see it! Want it to be stark reality, sure, why not? As I have been traveling about from blog to journal, I have noticed some wonderful descriptions of what it was like to take the photo being displayed, and what the photo means to you. So, let's take it all one step further by providing a caption.

You have complete freedom here Robins, and nearly two weeks to come up with your captioned photo. It can be taken indoors or outdoors. In low lighting or with full bright lights on. Let your imaginations run completely wild, but keep in mind that is must be a family friendly photo. This challenge will be played on Saturday, April 5th. As always you can post your entry any time during that 24 hour period, but please remember not to post prior to that date. If for some reason you can't make it that day, but you still want to play, just let us know, and we will make a note of the date you will plan to play next to your name on the Linking List. That way you will have the best chance of your entry being seen. As always you can post your entry up to one week late, but it's best to let us know if you will be late, so we can get the word out.

It really helps a lot to have your full information each time you play. Why? Well, it is less confusing for us if we don't have to track you down. "A Nice Place to Sit"

As February turns into March, those of us who live in northern climes are probably getting mighty sick of winter. It's a great time to curl up in a chair with a good book, with or without a roaring fire nearby. Or perhaps we think longingly of sitting on that park bench or Adirondack chair we photographed last summer, watching the birds and the butterflies. Those of us who live in a hotter climate may actually like to sit outside in the late winter and early spring, before the return of the 100+ degree days. Wherever we live, at whatever time of year, we have our own little sanctuaries, a nice place to sit and think, or read, or write, or even take pictures.

So, what's your favorite place to sit? Alternatively, is there some place you'd like to sit but haven't had the opportunity? Seek it out, photograph it, and get ready to post the pictures on Saturday, March 8th. As always, you can post up to six days later if necessary, but please do not post early. And, of course, you'll need to RSVP. Please, please, please, please, PLEASE leave your RSVP comment in the following format:

Round Robin Challenge: Shoes

Are you ready for a new challenge? Well, our next challenge should be one that all of us can relate to, how does the idea of "SHOES" grab ya? We all wear SHOES, right? Some wear loafers, or wedges, while others wear slides or skimmers. Some are fans of sand shoes and sandals, while others will not be without their High-Heeled-High-Tops! Some make us feel tall, while others slim our ankles. Some are only for work, like the steel-toed boot. But like I said, "we all wear SHOES." So Robins, grab your camera, and your SHOES, and show off what it's like to walk in your SHOES.

The challenge date will be Saturday, February 23rd, and was suggested by Vicki, author of the blog, "Maraca." As always, before the fun begins, I need to remind you of a few important details...

1. DO NOT POST YOUR ENTRY EARLY!

It's not fair to the Robin who picks the challenge. If you can't make it on the day of the challenge, just drop us an email, or tell us when you leave your intention to play, and we will make a note next to your name on the Linking List, which is posted the day of the challenge.

2. ALL PHOTOS MUST BE YOUR ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHY

No fair borrowing photos from a friend or from a postcard. It's ok once in a while to show off a friend's photography, along with your own, as long as you have their permission, but we really want to see your creativity. Besides, why not encourage them to join the Robins and do their own entry? We love it when new folks join in the fun!

3. Please use your own words to describe the challenge.

DO NOT LIFT from the Round Robin Blog. Again, we really want to see your photography, and read your words. You are welcome to use the LINKING LIST, or the ROUND ROBIN GRAPHICS, but the description of the challenge should come from you.

4. PLEASE R.S.V.P. in the following manner, even if you have played before...

It is a tremendous help to us when you observe, and then follow the rules. Your link will stay in the comments section, but I really need to encourage you to set an example for future players by following the rules. Fair enough? :)

Round Robin Challenge: Eat Your Vegetables!

Are you all ready to EAT YOUR VEGETABLES? Tee Hee. I hope so, because that is the subject of our next Round Robin Challenge! And that challenge will take place on Saturday, February 9th. Jill, one of our newest members,who authors the blog, "Letting Crazy Take A Spin" recently submitted the idea, and here is what she says...

"Anything veggie related. Veggies can be so interesting."

So, does that mean you should take a photo of yourself eating veggies? No, of course not. But you could photograph one of your very favorite vegetables to have with dinner. Or maybe a lot of vegetables on display, like at the grocery store or market stand. How about your favorite salad? Sure, why not? As long as it is veggie related you will be on track. Even if you HATE vegetables, you can take a picture of the one you hate the most, and then tell us why. LOL. Personally, I love my veggies, and I can think of a thousand different ways this challenge can be done. But first, every once in a while it's a good idea to review the rules a bit, so lets do that now.

**When you sign-up to play please do so in the following format...

Your Blog/Journal Name
Your Complete URL (Blog/Journal Address)

**Robins, PLEASE remember to give us your full information, even if you have played with us before. We need your information in order to be able to link to you on the day of the challenge. It makes a lot of work for us on the day before the challenge, and the day of the challenge, if we have to track you down. We all have time constraints, so let's be thoughtful of others by observing the rules. :)

**Make sure all the photos you post, are photos you have taken yourself. No postcards or borrows, we want to see your photography. Once in a while it is ok to share a friend's photo, if you have permission from whoever you are borrowing from, but we really want your entries to come from your own personal creativity! :)

**We recommend that you post your entry on the day of the challenge, to have the best chance of having your entry been seen, but if you can't make it the day of the challenge, you are not late. You have up to one week after each challenge is played before it is closed to new entries.

**DO NOT POST YOUR ENTRIES BEFORE THE CHALLENGE DATE! That one is self explanatory. Right? :)

**You are allowed to use the Round Robin (Bird) graphics, found on the sidebar, and the completed Linking List, in each challenge entry, for the purposes of linking to the challenges. All other graphics are off limits, including the small photos used in each challenge, and the text accompanying it, which we use an example of what the challenge topic will be.

We are working on a FAQ page for you to get a quick review, it will be coming soon. Feel free to send us a question any time, and we will be happy to send you a quick reply. Steven is on a temporary hiatus, but you can still email Karen or myself . Our email addresses can also be found on the sidebar.
