Round Robin Challenge: All Natural Colors

Hi, Robins! The next Challenge is about color, but not about a specific color. Instead I want you to try to capture colors that are as true to life as we can get them. The topic for Saturday, November 16th is

All Natural Colors

Let's try to present colors exactly as they exist in nature: the same sunset-tinged sky, the same red or orange leaf, the same range of blues and grays and greens seen on the side of a mountain. The challenge is to get your camera to record the same shades your eyes see, or, if you must, edit the photo to get it back to the color you remember. (It helps if you still have the thing you photographed visible for comparison!)  Whatever you photograph should not be dyed, painted, or made of plastic, but made of natural materials and left its natural color. If that color is a bit unusual for whatever it is, so much the better!

You know how this works, right?

1. Grab your camera and bring us one or more pictures showing natural colors. Archived photos are okay as long as you took the photo yourself and you're sure the colors are true-ti-life.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photo(s).

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, Saturday, November 16th, post the results on any blog, social media site or online photo album. Don't forget to link back to here in your entry, so your readers can check out the other Robins' contributions.

4. Please visit the other Robins' entries, and comment if so moved. The list of entries will be posted at the bottom of this entry starting around midnight MST on the Challenge date, and updated through the day.

That's all there is to it! Have fun, and go be photographers!

Round Robin Challenge: Old Tech, New Tech

Hi, Robins! As I set here with my iPhone 4S and a not-so-new computer (two of them, actually), I find myself thinking about how radically our lives have changed in the past ten years, let alone over the past half-century since I started first grade. Which leads us to our next Challenge. The topic for Saturday, November 2nd is

Old Tech, New Tech

Show us a contrast between some kind of technology you used years ago and something you use for the same purpose today. Or maybe you want to go further back, and compare today's gadget with really old technology, as used centuries or millennia ago. Old photos of the old tech are fine, as long as you took them - but let's have new photos of the latest and greatest!

You know how this works, right?

1. Grab your camera and bring us one or more pictures showing off old tech and new tech devices for doing basically the same thing. Archived photos are okay as long as you took the photo yourself.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photo(s).

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, Saturday, November 2nd, post the results on any blog, social media site or online photo album.

Round Robin Challenge: Spooky Effects

Hi, Robins! It's that time of the year again, when a number of countries and cultures celebrate either Halloween or some similar festival, such as Samhain, Day of the Dead, All Soul's Day, etc. Although our timing this year is a little off, that is the inspiration for our next Challenge. The topic for Saturday, October 19th, 2013 is

The "effects" could be a simple bit of staging, using props or special lighting. Or it could be the settings on your camera, or the way you edit the photo, or all of the above. Just show us something scary, odd or ethereal, using whatever tricks you care to employ. You know how this works, right?

1. Grab your camera and create any kind of spooky image(s). Archived photos are okay as long as you took the photo yourself.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photo(s).

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, Saturday, October 19th, post the results on any blog, social media site or online photo album. Don't forget to link back to here in your entry, so your readers can check out the other Robins' contributions.

4. Please visit the other Robins' entries, and comment if so moved. The list of entries will be posted at the bottom of this entry starting around midnight MST on the Challenge date, and updated through the day.

Round Robin Photo Challenge: Fun Foods

Hi, Robins! The next Challenge is another fairly straightforward one. The topic for Saturday, October 5th, 2013 is

Fun Foods!

A fun food could be some kind of junk food, but it doesn't have to be. Maybe it's fun to make, or fun to eat. (Do you get to eat with your fingers?) Maybe it's a fun presentation, such as a cake decorated with cartoon characters, or served in a bread bowl. Or it could be fun because of where you're eating it or who you're eating it with, or just because it's not the kind of thing you usually eat. Whatever it is, show us your fun food, and tell us what makes it fun for you!

Here, as usual, are the guidelines:

1. Grab your camera and photograph any kind of fun food. Archived photos are okay as long as you took the photo yourself.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photo(s).

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, Saturday, October 5th, post the results on any blog, social media site or online photo album.

Round Robin Photo Challenge: History!

Hi, Robins! The next Challenge has a pretty simple concept, and I hope you'll have fun with it. The topic for Saturday, September 21st, 2013 is

History!

Show us something historic. It could be the site of some historic first - the first thing of its kind, or the first time something happened. It could be the place where some important event happened - or was prevented from happening. It could be a place that simply preserves a look at some past time. Or maybe you were lucky enough to witness some historic event as it took place, or photograph someone who will go down in history. History isn't just what happened centuries ago. Sometimes we are a witness to history in the making!

Here, as usual, are the guidelines:

1. Grab your camera and photograph anyone, anywhere or anything that is historic. Archived photos are okay as long as you took the photo yourself.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photo(s).

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, Saturday, September 21st, post the results on any blog, social media site or online photo album.

Round Robin Challenge: That's Odd!

Hi, Robins! This next Challenge offers you a choice of approaches. You can show us something fairly normal, or go for something that is decidedly, well, odd. The topic for Saturday, September 7th, 2013 is

Here's what I mean. Option One: show us something strange, unusual, or just plain weird. Option Two: if there's nothing the least bit strange in your life to photograph (and how odd that would be!), just show us an odd number of, well, anything!

Here, as usual, are the guidelines:

1. Grab your camera and photograph anything odd, or an odd number of anything. Archived photos are okay, as long as you took them yourself.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photo(s).

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, Saturday, September 7th, post the results on any blog, social media site or online photo album. Don't forget to link back to here in your entry, so your readers can check out the other Robins' contributions.

4. Please visit the other Robins' entries, and comment if so moved. The list of entries will be posted at the bottom of this entry starting around midnight MST on the Challenge date, and updated through the day.

Round Robin Challenge: Gone

Hi, Robins! I hope this next Challenge will be a little more straightforward than the last, but it still calls for a bit of imagination. Are you up for it? The topic for Saturday, August 24th, 2013 is

It was there. You can tell. Traces have been left behind, or there's an obvious hole, or void, where it used to be. Maybe it was a meal, or a mess, a business, a circus or a sunset. Whatever it was, it's gone. Your Challenge is to show us the spot that it's gone from! If you like, you can even do a before and after comparison: it was here, and now it's gone.

Here, as usual, are the guidelines:

1. Grab your camera and photograph a place where something that was there is now gone.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photo(s).

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, Saturday, August 24th, post the results on any blog, social media site or online photo album. Don't forget to link back to here in your entry, so your readers can check out the other Robins' contributions.

4. Please visit the other Robins' entries, and comment if so moved. The list of entries will be posted at the bottom of this entry starting around midnight MST on the Challenge date, and updated through the day.
