Round Robin Challenge: Land Or Sea

Hi Robins :) NOW CLOSED!

I used one of my own ideas this week, hope you enjoy it! How does "Land Or Sea" sound? It's an easy concept, simply choose LAND or SEA to photograph and show us what you chose on the day of the challenge! The date for this challenge will be Saturday, May 8th 2010! As always, there are a few things to keep in mind about how to play along with the RRC...

1. Please R.S.V.P. your intention to play by using the following format...

Your Name
The Name of your blog, journal or website
The FULL Internet address of where your submission can be found.

Please remember, we need your full information each time you play. Why? Well, sometimes folks change their blog name, or the platform they are on. Sometimes we get folks with the same name, so having your information each time insures we link to the correct person on the day of the challenge.

2. Please DO NOT submit your entry prior to the challenge date! You won't be linked to until the day of the challenge, so it does no good to jump the gun. It's NOT a race! Saturday, May 8th is the challenge date, and you will be acknowledged that day.

3. If you are new to the Round Robin Challenges, please let us know so we can give you a proper greeting on the day of the challenge!

4. After your entry has posted, on the day of the challenge, it's a good idea to comeback here and tell us you have posted. This helps us update things in a more timely manner!

5. If you have any questions about how to play, you can always visit the Welcome Entry & Rules of play entry, a link to it can be found on the sidebar, or you can email us. Our contact information can also be found on the sidebar!

Announcing the New and Improved Weekend Assignment!

As many of you know, Carly and I (Karen) are involved in three memes. The Round Robin Photo Challenges were started by the two of us, almost by accident, back in 2005. The other two are even older, started on John Scalzi's old AOL Journal By the Way in 2004. Carly hosts one of these, now called the Ellipsis Monday Photo Shoot, every week on her blog Ellipsis. The other one, the odd one out, is the classic writing prompt, the Weekend Assignment. As of this week, the Weekend Assignment has a new home.

For a while now, the Weekend Assignments have been handed out from Ellipsis and from my own blog, Outpost Mâvarin, on alternating weeks. No more! The Weekend Assignment blog will now be your one stop for all of the following:

• Find out what the current Weekend Assignment is, in the same place every week

• Help us find and promote your Weekend Assignment entries by leaving your links, just as you do for the Round Robin Photo Challenges here.

Round Robin: Anything in Threes (for 4/24/10)

Hi, Robins! The next Challenge was suggested by Marie of the blog Photographs and Memories, way back in 2007. The topic for Saturday, April 24th, is

* * * Anything in Threes # # #

Marie said at the time, NOW CLOSED!

"Anything in 3's, must be the same theme and presented in 3 images."

Get the idea? This Challenge is not to take a picture of three of something, although you can do that too. The Challenge is to take and present three different pictures of the same subject or theme. What subject, what theme? That's totally up to you! Maybe it's three photos of your favorite tree, or of three different bodies of water. Maybe it's three different treatments of the same concept or mood, or three photos of your child. Let's get creative with this one!


Of course the standard guidelines apply:


1. Do RSVP in the comments below with your name, blog name and blog URL. It helps us a lot if you give your full info each time, and RSVP before the topic date. Like this:

Round Robin Challenge: An Almost Photo

Hi Robins :) NOW CLOSED!

Time for a new challenge! This time around, let's celebrate the "Almost Photo." This challenge was suggested by Steven, way back in 2007! Although he has been taking some time off from things, I am sure he won't mind if we use his idea! The idea is quite simple, just show us a photo that could have been a great picture, but for some reason it just didn't work out!

We will play this challenge on Saturday, April 10th!

As always there are a few guidelines for playing along with this meme...

1. Please DO NOT post your entry prior to the challenge date of APRIL 10th! We don't visit you early. You won't be added to the Linking List until the day of the challenge, and it makes me cranky, so there is NO good reason to do it. OK? :)

2. PLEASE REMEMBER TO PROVIDE YOUR FULL INFORMATION EACH TIME YOU PLAY!
Folks, we have been asking you to do this for over 5 years, so please remember to leave your information in the following manner...

Round Robin Challenge: Up to Five Miles Away

Hi, Robins! It's time to announce the next topic! This one was suggested by Carly back in June 2008. The Round Robin Challenge for Saturday, March 27, is

(5.0 miles = 8.04672 km.)

As Carly explains...

The idea is to get in your car, or if you prefer a bike or your own two feet, and show us something in any direction you choose, up to 5 miles from your home. For a little added fun, tell us when you sign up for the challenge, in which direction you plan to go. Let's see which direction gets the most attention.

Simple, right? Pick a direction, travel five miles (about 8 kilometers) in that direction, and then photograph what you find. Maybe there's something within five miles from your home that you've always wanted to photograph. Well, here's your chance - and if it's only three and a half miles away, well, what are we, the Google Maps police? Or maybe you'll generate a random choice of direction (e.g. let someone spin you around, blindfolded, or, um, something) go exactly five miles, and photograph whatever happens to be there. You decide how you want to play this. But please, don't go more than five miles away, okay?

Okay, here's the part where we put in the rules, because even after all these years we still get people who don't quite get how this works:

1. DO RSVP in the comments below, preferably before the Challenge date (March 27th). Your comment should include your name or handle, blog name, and blog URL, thus:

2. DO proofread your RSVP, because we build our Linking List from it. If you've typed "bolgspot" and we don't catch it, you're not going to get many visitors to your blog!

3. DO mention the Round Robin Challenge in your entry, and include a link back here. You are encouraged to also include links to other participants, but that's not required. We also have a graphic you may want to include - see the sidebar for graphics to download and use.

4. DO NOT post your entry before March 27th.

5. DO post your entry on the 27th if possible, so people will be able to visit your blog as they're making the rounds. It's also a good idea to leave a second comment to say you've posted. If you have to post a day or two late, that's okay - not optimal, but okay. We will accept late entries for six days before closing the Challenge.

6. DO visit other people's entries, and comment if you can so they know you visited.

Round Robin Challenge: Look Up/Look Down

Hello Robins :) NOW CLOSED!

If it's Sunday, it must be time for an all new challenge! This time around it comes to us by way of our friend Steven. "Look Up/Look Down" is scheduled for Saturday March 13th, 2010. For this one, the perspective is up to you. Pretty straight forward I think, so, let's review the guidelines for play, shall we?

Round Robin Challenge: Blinded By the Light

Hi, Robins! The next topic was suggested by Vicki of the blog Maraca back in 2008. The topic for Saturday, February 27th is

Blinded By The Light

"Photograph anything brilliant and bright."

Now, don't go looking directly at the sun or anything, but do let your camera capture an abundance of light or brightness in some interesting way. Will you photograph natural or artificial light? You can even interpret the words metaphorically, just in case you get a chance to photograph a genius!

Whatever you do, though, please follow our usual guidelines:


1. DO RSVP in the comments with your name or handle, the name of your blog and the blog's full URL, thus:

Please include these details EVERY time you play. It helps us to compile the Linking List, and it cuts down on errors. People frequently change blogs, so don't expect us to assume it's the same blog as last time. Also, please proofread the URL before posting the comment. We post the link you give us, so a typo makes it hard for anyone to reach your blog! Also RSVP before the Challenge date if at all possible, so we have it for the list as the Challenge date begins.

It's also helpful if you leave another comment after you've posted, to let us know your entry is up.

2. DO NOT post your entry before the Challenge date. The idea is for everyone to post on that date (or if necessary, up to six days thereafter), so that readers can conveniently visit all the entries. We don't want to scroll down to something you did two weeks ago.

3. DO make sure the entry is relevant to the Challenge. Occasionally someone leaves a link to something they posted that has little or nothing to do with the topic. At minimum your entry should mention the Round Robin Photo Challenges and the current topic. Otherwise, it's not really a Round Robin entry, is it? A link back to this blog is strongly encouraged, so that people can find every one else's entries and not just yours. A Linking List of participants is posted here around midnight as the Challenge date begins, and is updated over the next day or two. If you want to include this in your entry too, that would be most helpful.
