Round Robin Challenge: Free

Hello Robins :) This challenge is now closed! Thanks for playing. :)

Yep, it's THAT time again, time to learn the topic of our next Round Robin Challenge! This time around our subject has been chosen by our friend Phinney, author of the journal, Paragon. Phinney has decided on the topic, "Free" for our next challenge outing.

"Free as in the way a bird looks flying across the open sky. Free, like the way you feel riding a bike down a long sloping road and the wind is blowing your hair. Free, as in going to the store and finding ice-cream is on sale, buy one - get one Free! Free as in Freedom, which defies definition. Yeah, I choose Free!"

Sounds like fun to me! I enjoy doing these challenges very much, they just keep getting better and better. Wanna join us for the fun and frolicking? The date of this challenge will be, Wednesday, May 10th. You can post your entry any time between the midnights of that day, but PLEASE DO NOT POST EARLY! All you have to do is indicate in the comments section of this entry your intention to join us, and then post your entry on the day of the challenge.

Round Robin Challenge: Holy (for 4/26/06)

This challenge is now closed!
Hi, Robins! The new challenge comes to us from Robin (Gannet Girl) of Search the Sea. As she explains:

Okay, then, the word for this challenge is "Holy."

For the Christians among us, this two-week Challenge begins with the last four days of Holy Week, the most sacred four days in the church year which began on the first day of Advent.

For the Jews among us, the Passover celebration began last night. Although the holiest of days do not come until fall, this celebration ranks among the most powerful for the Jewish people.

All religions, and probably all people, religious or not, have a conception of holy. According to the dictionary, the meaning of the word "holy" can range from "exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness; devoted entirely to the deity or the work of the deity, e.g. a holy temple or holy prophets; having a divine quality , e.g. holy love; venerated as or as if sacred, e.g. holy scripture or a holy relic; used as an intensive, e.g. this is a holy mess or he was a holy terror when he drank -- Thomas Wolfe; often used in combination as a mild oath: holy smoke.

This seems like a good time to experiment and see where the word takes us.

It's an interesting subject, and a great time of year to think about this stuff. Who or what do you revere? For many of us, the obvious answer is God, but it's not the only answer. Writing and the English language are holy for me, as the visual arts may be to someone else. The ability to reason, to think critically, may be the object of our devotion. Motherhood, nature, the U.S. Constitution, human rights, friends, love, exclamations by Dick Grayson - heck, there are lots of possibilities. And yes, this is also a a great opportunity to visually explore the topic of God and religion.

For additional information on how to play along with the Round Robin Challenges, please read the *Welcome Entry & Rules Of Play.* It may be a good idea to check that entry from time to time, to see if any new information has been added. :) If you have any questions, feel free to send an email to either Karen or Carly and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Carly: Ondinemonet@AOL.com
Karen: Mavarin@AOL.com

So grab your camera and put on your thinking caps (or sacred apparel). Show us what you find holy. The posting date is Wednesday, April 26th, anytime between midnight and midnight. If you're running a little late, that's okay, too. You have up to a week after the challenge date to post your entry. Please DO NOT post your entry prior to the challenge date. If you can't play along with us on the challenge day, just drop Karen or Carly an email to let us know what day you are available to post, and we will add your name to the linking list, with a note beside your name, indicating the date you will be posting your entry. And keep in mind that the photos you submit for the challenge, MUST be a photograph that you have taken personally. Also, when you R.S.V.P for the challenge, please leave your name, your journal's name and the FULL URL of the blog or journal you will be posting your challenge entry to.

Thanks! We'll see you soon!
