Round Robin Photo Challenge: Goodbye

Hi, folks!

As those of you who follow me on Facebook may know, my brother Steve died on Saturday, September 6th. I was already seriously considering posting one last Challenge to close out the meme; then the terrible news came, which sent me across the country to Cleveland and then to Syracuse. I didn't come back here to the RRPC partly because I was out of town, and partly because I wasn't sure anyone still cared whether there was ever another Round Robin Photo Challenge.

I've had the topic planned for a while, if I ever needed to designate a "last" Challenge. The topic for Saturday, October 11th is:

Goodbye.

Maybe there is a loved one you are saying goodbye to, whether it is because they died or for a happier reason, such as going off to college or moving out of state. Maybe you're saying goodbye to an old house, a business that's closing, a tv show going off the air, a job you're quitting, summer weather... well, you get the idea.

This last time, I'm going to extend the posting period. The Challenge date is Saturday, October 11th, 2014. But you are welcome to post your "Goodbye" photos any time between October 11th and October 18th.

If you plan to participate, please post your name and a link to your blog or other social media site in the comments below. Then COME BACK and post to let us know when your photos are up, so we can take a look!

Over 100 different people have posted to the Round Robin Photo Challenges over the past decade, and Carly and I appreciate every one of you. I hope at least a few of you will say Goodbye with us here, one last time. Thanks.

(The picture: a flocks of birds says goodbye to Ohio for the winter, presumably, as they fly over Lake Erie.)

Gone Fishin'

A small part of the mess left behind by burglars,  8/1/2014

Hi, folks! For various reasons, I've decided to put the Round Robin Photo Challenge on hiatus until Sunday, August 31st, when I'll be posting a new Challenge for Saturday, September 14th. Probably. This will give me time to focus on writing projects, sorting through boxes and so on. We recently had a burglary here at Casa Blocher, and need to take a little time to get our house in order - literally!

As you may recall, this meme originally was fueled by suggestions from participants, who took turns suggesting topics for the next Challenge. If you have any ideas for a future Challenge, feel free to leave your suggestion in the comments below.

See you at the end of September!

Round Robin Challenge: Where'd You Get Those Eyes?

Hi, Robins! Our next topic comes from Carly (thanks, pal!). The
Challenge for Saturday, August 9th is

Where'd You Get Those Eyes?

Carly says, "Eyes. Do a selfie of your eyes." I'm going to expand it a bit and say, it doesn't have to be a selfie. Any eyes will do! Show us one or more close-up photographs of any eyes you like--yours, a family member's, the eyes of a pet, or even the eyes of some object such as a statue or painting!

Here are the guidelines:

1. Grab your camera or go through your files, and bring us at least one
picture of eyes. Let's stick to closeups that really focus on the eyes, not entire faces.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photos.

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, Saturday, August 9th, post the results on
any blog, social media site or online photo album. Don't forget to link
back to here in your entry, so your readers can check out the other
Robins' contributions.

4. Please visit the other Robins' entries, and comment if so moved. The
list of entries will be posted at the bottom of this entry starting
around midnight MST on the Challenge date, and updated through the day.

That's all there is to it! Have fun, and go be photographers!

Hi, Robins! The Challenge for Saturday, July 26th is

About the Weather

Show us one or more photographs that show the weather, either where you live or somewhere else you've been recently. If it's unrelentingly sunny, then show that, but let's try for something dramatic!

Here are the guidelines:

1. Grab your camera or go through your files, and bring us at least one picture that  has something with weather.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photos.

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, Saturday, July 26th, post the results on any blog, social media site or online photo album. Don't forget to link back to here in your entry, so your readers can check out the other Robins' contributions.

Round Robin Challenge: Words and Pictures

Hi, Robins! This next one is a variation on one we did years ago, about Signs. The Challenge for Saturday, July 12th is

Words and Pictures

Show us one or more photographs of something that contains both words and pictures. It can be a book cover, an autographed picture, a poster, a sign, the box some new purchase came in or whatever. It doesn't have to be the whole thing, as long as it contains at least one word and at least one photo, painting, drawing, cartoon, sketch or other kind of picture. In fact, it's better if your photo either shows your subject in its larger context (e.g. a sign and the building it's on) or a detail within the overall subject (e.g. a small part of a larger map).

Here are the guidelines:

1. Grab your camera or go through your files, and bring us at least one picture of something with both words and pictures on it.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photos.

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, Saturday, July 12th, post the results on any blog, social media site or online photo album. Don't forget to link back to here in your entry, so your readers can check out the other Robins' contributions.

4. Please visit the other Robins' entries, and comment if so moved. The list of entries will be posted at the bottom of this entry starting around midnight MST on the Challenge date, and updated through the day.

That's all there is to it! Have fun, and go be photographers!

Round Robin Challenge: Wild Ways

Hi, Robins! This next one is a variation on one we've done before, but with more leeway to get creative with it. The Challenge for Saturday, June 28th is

Wild things, and even semi-wild creatures, have their own ways of doing things. Sometimes we're lucky enough to photograph them doing it! Wild plants, too, have particular ways of growing. Closer to home, we often find our beloved dogs and cats echoing the behavior of their wild ancestors. Even some people are known for their wild ways, doing things other people would never attempt. So here is your Challenge: show us the wild ways of any living thing.

Here are the guidelines:

1. Grab your camera or go through your files, and bring us at least one picture of wild ways - something wild or semi-wild doing its wild thing.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photos.

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, June 28th, 2014, post the results on any blog, social media site or online photo album. Don't forget to link back to here in your entry, so your readers can check out the other Robins' contributions.

4. Please visit the other Robins' entries, and comment if so moved. The list of entries will be posted at the bottom of this entry starting around midnight MST on the Challenge date, and updated through the day.

Round Robin Photo: Sunrise, Sunset

Hi, Robins! Here's a pretty straightforward topic, inspired by my total failure to take a good photo from my driveway early this evening. The Challenge for Saturday, June 14th is

Sunrise, Sunset

Who doesn't love a sunset photo? Show us one or more of your best sunset shots, old or new. But ALSO show us a sunrise photo! Can the best sunrise pictures ever top the sunset ones? You tell me - or better yet, show me!

Here are the guidelines:

1. Grab your camera or go through your files, and bring us at least one sunset photo, plus at least one sunrise - not necessarily in that order.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photos.

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, June 14th, 2014, post the results on any blog, social media site or online photo album. Don't forget to link back to here in your entry, so your readers can check out the other Robins' contributions.

4. Please visit the other Robins' entries, and comment if so moved. The list of entries will be posted at the bottom of this entry starting around midnight MST on the Challenge date, and updated through the day.

Round Robin Challenge: Really Old

Hi, Robins! This next one is a topic that's been on my mind a lot lately. The Challenge for Saturday, May 31st is

Really Old

Old books. Old people. Antique furniture. Historic buildings. If it's old, it counts - with one stipulation. Old is relative, of course, but let's not stretch the definition too much. I'm not talking about month-old milk, or your first cell phone. Let's stick to people, places and things that are at least 60 years old - and a century old is better!

Here are the guidelines:

1. Grab your camera and bring us one or more pictures of anything or anyone over 60 years old. Older is better, so let's try for subjects that have lasted since the early 1900s or earlier.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photo(s) or video(s).

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, May 31st, 2014, post the results on any blog, social media site or online photo album. Don't forget to link back to here in your entry, so your readers can check out the other Robins' contributions.

4. Please visit the other Robins' entries, and comment if so moved. The list of entries will be posted at the bottom of this entry starting around midnight MST on the Challenge date, and updated through the day.

Round Robin Challenge: Funny Stuff

Hi, Robins! The next Challenge is based more on a certain feeling  than on whether it's taken inside or outside, or what is in the frame. The topic for Saturday, May 17th is

Round Robin Photo Challenge - Funny Stuff (The Simpsons)

It could be something to do with the Funnies, as people used to call comic strips in the newspaper. It could be something to do with cartoons, or a comedian you saw in concert, or merchandise from a funny movie. It could be a lolcat or a loldog, or a family member making a face, or a whimsical piece of public art. If it has anything to do with humor, I want to see it!

1. Grab your camera and bring us one or more pictures of anything funny, or at least humor-adjacent.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photo(s) or video(s).

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, May 17th, 2014, post the results on any blog, social media site or online photo album. Don't forget to link back to here in your entry, so your readers can check out the other Robins' contributions.

Round Robin Challenge: May Flowers

Hi, Robins! By the time we get to the next Challenge date, Saturday, May 3rd, Spring will be half over in the Northern hemisphere. The time is right for our next Challenge topic:

May Flowers

It's a terrible old joke, but I can't stop myself from quoting it here:

Q: If April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring?
A: Pilgrims.

Or, as I always insisted, June bugs.

On May 3rd, show us the very latest flowers you can find, with or without the bugs. The guidelines are a little different for this one:

1. Grab your camera and bring us one or more pictures of any kind of flowers. This time, I'm looking for the very latest photos, if you can manage it. If you must dig into your archives, try for some flowers you actually photographed last May, or the May before.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photo(s) or video(s).

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, May 3rd, 2014, post the results on any blog, social media site or online photo album. Don't forget to link back to here in your entry, so your readers can check out the other Robins' contributions.

4. Please visit the other Robins' entries, and comment if so moved. The list of entries will be posted at the bottom of this entry starting around midnight MST on the Challenge date, and updated through the day.

Round Robin Challenge: Spring Time

Hi, Robins! The next Challenge is adapted from one of Carly's suggestions. The topic for Saturday, April 19th is

Fisher Price Little Snoopy
Spring Time

Carly described her original suggestion this way: "Spring. Anything from a slinky to a beautiful flower garden."

What we'd like to see this time out is anything that involves any kind of spring, whether it's that season between Winter and Summer, or the coil of metal inside an old pocket watch. It could even be an animal springing after its prey, or a hero springing into action! Whatever it is, we want to see it!

In case you're just joining us, here are the guidelines to participate:

1. Grab your camera and bring us one or more pictures involving some kind of spring. Archived
photos or videos are okay as long as you took them
yourself.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photo(s) or video(s).

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, April 19, 2014, post the
results on any blog, social media site or online photo album. Don't
forget to link back to here in your entry, so your readers can check out
the other Robins' contributions.

4. Please visit the other Robins' entries, and comment if so moved. The
list of entries will be posted at the bottom of this entry starting
around midnight MST on the Challenge date, and updated through the day.

Round Robin: Dress Up

Hi, Robins! The next Challenge takes us into the world of textiles - and maybe into other worlds entirely. The topic for Saturday, April 5th is

 Dress Up

My particular inspiration here, as you may guess from the photo, is costumes from SF cosplay. But the topic is much broader than that. Any kind of costume counts, any dress, tux and tails, doll clothes, anything worn by anything or anyone as long as it's out of the ordinary - fancy, elegant, vintage, stylish or just plain weird!

The usual guidelines apply:

1. Grab your camera and bring us one or more pictures of someone or something in fancy dress (costumes or formal wear or anything along those lines). Archived photos or videos are okay as long as you took them yourself.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photo(s) or video(s).

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, April 5, 2014, post the results on any blog, social media site or online photo album. Don't forget to link back to here in your entry, so your readers can check out the other Robins' contributions.

4. Please visit the other Robins' entries, and comment if so moved. The list of entries will be posted at the bottom of this entry starting around midnight MST on the Challenge date, and updated through the day.

Round Robin Challenge: Being Green

Hi, Robins! The next Challenge is in honor of the coming equinox, but don't let that throw you!  The topic for Saturday, March 22nd is

Being Green

As Kermit the Frog reminds us, "Green is the color of Spring," but it's much more than that. Green is associated with plants and some animals, with U.S. currency and St. Patrick's Day, with ecological sustainability and the emotions envy and jealousy. For this Challenge, feel free to photograph anything green - but if it illustrates some larger concept of green-ness, so much the better!

The usual guidelines apply:

1. Grab your camera and bring us one or more pictures of something green (or on the green, or in the green, or green-minded, or...). Archived photos or videos are okay as long as you took them yourself.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photo(s) or video(s).

3. On the Challenge date, Saturday, March 22, 2014, post the results on any blog, social media site or online photo album. Don't forget to link back to here in your entry, so your readers can check out the other Robins' contributions.

Round Robin Challenge: Hot Stuff

Hi, Robins! The next Challenge is a simple one, and an antidote to the cold winter some people are experiencing.  The topic for Saturday, March 8th is

Hot Stuff!

It can be hot in temperature, or it can be spicy, or both. If you want to go for some other definition of hot, that's okay, too.

The usual guidelines apply:

1. Grab your camera and bring us one or more pictures of something hot. Archived photos or videos are okay as long as you took them yourself.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photo(s) or video(s).

Round Robin Challenge: In the Dark

Hi, Robins! The next Challenge is one that I personally am going to find, well, challenging!  The topic for Saturday, February 22nd is

In the Dark

Simple idea, right? Show us one or more pictures taken in a dark environment, indoors or out. You can have as many light sources as you like, as long as they aren't enough to dispel the darkness in the area you are photographing.

 The usual guidelines apply:

1. Grab your camera and bring us one or more pictures taken in the dark. Archived photos or videos are okay as long as you took them yourself.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photo(s) or video(s).

Round Robin Challenge: Rear View

Hi, Robins! The next Challenge idea comes from Carly, who recently came up with a whole list of cool ones to keep us from running dry!  The topic for Saturday, February 8th is

Carly's instruction is simple: "Take a photo of something behind you." The tricky part, of course, is, well, actually, there are two tricky parts:

1. How can you take a picture while facing the other way? and
2. How can we tell that's what you did?

Well, here's your chance to figure that part out!

 The usual guidelines apply:

1. Grab your camera and bring us one or more pictures of something behind you. Archived photos or videos are okay as long as you took them yourself.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photo(s) or video(s).

Round Robin Challenge: The White Stuff

Hi, folks!  This next Challenge is inspired by something that is on the ground in large parts of the Northern Hemisphere about this time of year. The topic for Saturday, January 25th is

There's lots of white stuff in the world: snow, clouds, pillowcases, dandelions, kittens--well, you know. It could be just about anything. But it's not always easy to photograph, especially when it's white on white. That's our simple/not so simple Challenge: show us anything white!

The usual guidelines apply:

1. Grab your camera and bring us one or more pictures of any kind of white stuff. Archived photos or videos are okay as long as you took them yourself.

2. RSVP in the comments below with your name and the name and URL of the place you plan to post your photo(s) or video(s).
