Round Robin Challenge: "Past Vs. Present" (for 12/27/06)

Greetings, Robins!
This Challenge Is Now Closed!
Here we are again with another Challenge, this time for a posting date of Wednesday, December 27th. The topic comes to us from Connie, author of Windswept - Connie's Country Life. I'll let her introduce it:

How about: Past vs Present.
One could show
  • a photo of how they looked, say, 20 or so years ago and now...
  • or maybe the house they lived in, then and now...
  • or their garden, then and now.
The possibilities are left to the imagination.

I like this one a lot. Pretty much everyone has old photos of something or someone that's still important to us, still a part of our lives today. Normally we don't get to use these in the Round Robin, because the idea is to take new photos based on that week's theme. But this time, we get to do both: show off an old photo, and compare and contrast it with a brand new one of the same person, place or thing. Or maybe it's a completely different person, place or thing, say an ex-husband and the current one, or your old house versus your new apartment, or the recreation you lavished your time on when you were young and foolish, vs. what you spend time on now that we're all older (and probably still foolish). Neat, huh? I know I'm looking forward to it!

Okay, now try to stay awake, 'cause I'm going to run down Da Rules again, briefly!
  • Do RSVP by leaving your first name, blog name and URL in a comment to this entry (see below for an example*)
  • Don't post before Wednesday, December 27th. Patience, my friends!
  • Do post on Wednesday, December 27th, any time from midnight to midnight (but if you must delay, up to Tuesday, January 2nd is okay)
  • Don't completely forget to post your entry
  • Do mention the Round Robin and the topic, and do link back to this blog (and if you include the linking list, that's even better!)
* Sample RSVP:

Yes, we wants to play, oh yes, my presciousss!

Questions? You know where to reach us:

* Karen: mavarin[at]aol.com
* Carly: ondinemonet[at]aol.com
* Steven: steven.emmett[at]gmail.com

That's it! So in the midst of your holiday revelries, dig out that one precious (or memorable, or evocative, or silly) photo from the past, and keep it in mind as you (yes, I have to say it) go be photographers!

Karen (with Carly and Steven)

Happy Holidays!

Round Robin Challenge: "Lights Of The Holidays"

Happy Holidays Robins... This challenge is now closed! Thanks for playing. :)

We have a brand new challenge to meet! Suzanne, author of the blog, "New Suzanne R's Life," has decided on a fun and timely challenge for us, especially during this festive season, "Lights of the Holidays." How fun! So, grab your camera's Robins, and snap those photos of sparkly Christmas trees, or the awesome lighting displays in yards in your hometown, or even the light in the eyes of someone you love, on Christmas morning. :) If you don't celebrate Christmas, no worries, you can also post photos of last year's lighting of the menorah for Hanukkah, it is the "Festival of the Lights," after all. :) And don't forget New Year's Eve fireworks as another possibility for this challenge. If it's a holiday light... it's in!

The date of this challenge will be, Wednesday, December 13th 2006. As always, you can post any time between the midnights of that day. If you haven't played along with us before, you can find the complete rules of play on the sidebar. Two important rules I want to remind you of...

1. DO NOT POST YOUR ENTRIES EARLY.
2. PLEASE FOLLOW THE FOLLOWING EXAMPLE WHEN YOU R.S.V.P. for a challenge...

Your Name
The Full Name Of Your Blog
The Full URL (Address) Of Your Blog

Carly
Ellipsis... Suddenly Carly
http://ellipsissuddenlycarly.blogspot.com

****PLEASE ROBINS**** try to remember to post your intention to play as in the above example. We need to know your complete information so that we can prepare the Linking List for you. It helps us a lot if we don't have to track you down, and it also makes it easier for your fellow Robins to find your entries.

OK Guys & Gals, grab your cameras, and GO BE PHOTOGRAPHERS! :) Come back here on December 13th, and show off your "Lights Of The Holidays!"

Round Robin Challenge: In the Kitchen! (for 11/15/06)

We love it when a Robin does our work for us! Jessica, author of the photoblog QuickSilver Dreams, wrote a great introduction to the next Round Robin Photo Challenge topic, entries to be posted on November 15th. Take it away, Jessica!

I thought about a few different ideas when I tried to come up with a challenge, but taking into consideration the date of this Round Robin Challenge - Nov. 15 - and the upcoming holiday seasons, I know where I am going to be spending a good deal of my time over the next month....and I'm betting I'm not the only one. So the Round Robin Challenge for Nov. 15 is

In the Kitchen! This Challenge is now closed! Thanks for playing!

...and everyone is invited .. from haute cuisine to hotdog gourmet!

What goes on in your kitchen? Kids' dishwashing duty? Dad dishing out his famous five-alarm chili? Jeweled jars of homemade strawberry jam on the windowsill? Parties at your house always end up congregating around the kitchen sink? Moldy cheese in the fridge? 10 pies cooling on the counter for last year's Christmas feast, or that secret recipe stuffing that went so wonderfully with the perfect deep fried turkey last year at Thanksgiving (or the fire in the kitchen when the deep frying didn't work so well!)...

Share the unique and prized products and people, and the hilarious "whoops" moments, from your kitchen...

Jessica

We love this topic, and we're guessing you will, too. If you'd like to play along, just leave us an RSVP in the comments to this entry. It should look something like this:

Yes, I'll play!

Ariel
Ariel's Crosstime Blog
http://notreal.blogspot.com

Then get ready to post your kitchen-centric photos on Wednesday, November 15th, any time between midnight and midnight. If you need to post late, you may do so anytime through Tuesday the 21st, but please don't post your entry before the 15th. Be sure to include a link to this entry, or better yet, a copy of the Linking List that will be posted here starting on Tuesday night. Questions? Ask us!

Carly (OndineMonet@AOL.com)
Steven (steven.emmett@gmail.com)
Karen (Mavarin@AOL.com)

In the meantime, as we like to say around here, go be photographers! Have fun, and we'll see you on the 15th!

Round Robin Challenge: "ABCs of Autumn" (for 10/4/06)

Okay, Robins, we have a really creative and challenging topic for our Round Robin Challenge for Wednesday, October 4th. It comes to us courtesy of T.J., author of Photo Inclusions: Every Picture Tells a Story. I'll let her introduce it:

Topic for October ...oh that can only be one thing.

=ABC's of Autumn=

Using the first letters of your first and last name.

Example:
Lori - Leaves
Stevens - Streets

Lots of fun I hope...

Love TJ THIS CHALLENGE IS NOW CLOSED! THANKS FOR PLAYING! :)

Neat, huh? So I'm thinking about the possibilities for KB in autumn in Arizona. Kissing Bugs? Killer Birds? Kibbles & Bits? Well, I'm sure I'll come up with something. For now, by way of example, here's a Kinetic Birdie!

How about you? What is there about fall that starts with your initials? Figure it out, take your pictures, and get ready to post them on Wednesday, October 4th. Please DON'T post your entry before that date, and please DO RSVP before the 4th so we can get you on the Linking List. Your RSVP should be a comment to this entry, and it should look something like this:

I'm in!

Jace

Got it? Good! Dive into some autumnal wordplay, leave your RSVP, and go be photographers! We look forward to seeing your entries on Wednesday, October 4th.

Round Robin Challenge: "Dream Homes"

Hello Robins :) This challenge is now closed, thanks for playing!

We had an awesome turnout for our previous challenge, but it's time to focus on a new one, and our next one comes to us by way of our friend Gem, author of the journal, " Journally Yours." Gem has chosen "Dream Homes," as the theme for our next challenge, which will be played on Wednesday, September 20th. Gem's idea is for you to take a picture of the exterior of what you consider to be your "Dream Home," and then tell us why you consider it as such. Before you sign up for the challenge however, let me remind you of the basics for playing along...

1. DO NOT POST YOUR ENTRY EARLY! Please remember, your entries should be posted on the day of the challenge, or for up to one week after the challenge date. If for some reason you must post early, drop an email to Karen, Steven or myself and we will make special arrangements for you. :)

2. Please try to give us your RSVP by the day before the challenge is played. In this case it will be, Tuesday, September 19th. As you know, we enter a Linking List for you to copy and paste into your journals on the day of the challenge. We usually place the list in the challenge entry just after midnight the day of the challenge, as a courtesy to the Robins, and to those who might come by for the first time. So PLEASE try to sign up the day before the challenge is played. :)

Here is an example of how you should sign up for a challenge...

Carly
Ellipsis...Suddenly Carly
http://ellipsissuddenlycarly.blogspot.com

3. Placing the whole Linking List into your entry is optional, but we do ask that you at least link back to the Round Robin blog, so that folks can find the links to the other participants. On the day of the challenge, you can come back and leave a direct link to the specific entry that you post, and we will update the Linking List to reflect that so your entry can be found easier. That is optional. This is a community project, so let's try to be mindful of that. Entries that sign up to play, and then don't post an entry, will be deleted the following week when the challenge closes. :)

As always, if you have any questions, or maybe need a little help with the challenges in any way, you are always welcome to contact us, and we will assist you in any way possible. It might be a good idea, from time to time, to pay a visit to the ***Welcome Entry & Rules Of Play*** to read the full list of Rules Of Play. The rules apply to everyone, and were made to insure everyone gets a fair chance to have their entry be seen, so let's try to keep that in mind. :)

Ok, now for the FUN part...grab your cameras, and your imagination, and GO BE PHOTOGRAPHERS! Make me proud, and don't forget to come back here on Wednesday, September 20th, to see all the entries by your fellow Round Robins. See ya then!

Round Robin Challenge: “Nostalgia”

B-17Greetings Robins!
Time to welcome in a new theme and this one comes from Dorn who shares her photos on the blog, Through the Eyes of the Beholder. Dorn also authors the Dust Bunny Club of North America.

For the week of Wednesday, September 6th, Dorn has selected:

Nostalgia
This challenge is now closed, thank you for playing :)
A quick definition of nostalgia is something past that is cherished. Don't take my word for it, lets see what Wikipedia has to say about nostalgia. Starting to get an idea for your photo? Me too, lets take a look see at technorati for more ideas as nostalgia is a blog tag. Still stumped? Jump on over to Flickr and take at look at how others have captured a bit of nostalgia in their photos. Lots of ideas now!

Do visit the rules of play if it's your first time playing or have sat out a few rounds.

Questions? Sing out in comments or give Carly, Karen or me a shout!
  • Karen: mavarin[at]aol.com
  • Carly: ondinemonet[at]aol.com
  • Steven: steven.emmett[at]gmail.com
Go ahead and R.S.V.P. in comments. Follow my example. Now go be photographers and return on September the 6th with some nostalgia photography!

Round Robin Challenge: Transportation (for 8/23/06)

This challenge is now closed! Thank you for playing! :)

Note: entries for the following Challenge should be posted on Wednesday, August 23rd. PLEASE DO NOT POST EARLY! See the Welcome entry for rules of play.

Hi, Robins! Our next Challenge comes from Robin, author of the blog These are the Days of our Lives.... She has chosen topic "Transportation" for our August 23rd Challenge.

Oh, yeah! I like this one! There are so many cool things to do with it. Do you have a beloved old car, or a shiny new one, or maybe even one you've been "visiting" in automobile showrooms or used car lots? Are you a trainspotter? (There's one!) Do you like watching airplanes take off, preferably on a day without a new terrorist alert? Does your town have stagecoaches, trolleys, rickshaws, or even a monorail like North Haverbrook? (That last one is a Simpsons joke.) Maybe your favorite form of transportation isn't motorized. Heck, maybe it doesn't even have wheels!

So grab your camera, and get some pictures of some favorite or interesting kind of transportation. The date to post your pictures is Wednesday, August 23rd. As we said at the top of this entry, please do not post it early. We will remove links to entries posted before the challenge date, unless special arrangements are made in advance.

If you plan to participate, please RSVP in the comments to this blog. To make everything clear and easy, the format should be exactly this:

First Name
Name of the blog of journal where you will be posting
URL of that journal

(plus anything else you want to say, such as "Hi! I'll be posting").

If you post your Round Robin entries to two blogs, be sure to list the title and URL of both. Don't make us guess which one you're using!

And of course, if you have any questions, we're just an email away:

Karen: mavarin@aol.com
Carly: ondinemonet@aol.com

That's it! Please see the Welcome entry for details on all this rules stuff. As we like to say around here, go be photographers!

Please Welcome Our New Round Robin Team Member: Steven!

Yes, it's true, as hinted to in the "Summer Gardens," entry in this blog, we have some wonderful news to share. The Round Robin Challenges has a new team member, Steven, the talented photographer and author of the blog, "(sometimes)photoblog." Steven will be joining us officially with the announcement of the Round Robin Challenge scheduled for August 24th, for the September 9th challenge. As our team member, Steven will take turns with Karen and myself in handling the responsibilities of running this project, such as writing the announcement entries, and being here to answer any questions or concerns you might have. Karen and I are excited to have Steven join us. It will be good to have a man's input regarding the challenges, and how things might run even more smoothly in the future. There may be some changes and improvements coming up, so be sure to review the "Welcome Entry & Rules Of Play" from time to time to stay up to date!

So now, without further delay, Karen and I want to say... WELCOME STEVEN! :)

Round Robin Challenge: Summer Gardens

This challenge is now closed...thanks for playing! :)

Hello Robins... Time for our next challenge!

rRose, author of the journal, "WAIT-NOTYET," has chosen a lovely new challenge for us, "Summer Gardens." rRose asks the question, "How does your Summer garden grow? With fresh vegetables, fruits, a single pink rose, or many flowers?"

Sometimes, I find myself enjoying the summer gardens more then the gardens of spring. When summer days are unbearably hot, at least the flowers make things a little more pleasant. Lately I have been enjoying the Day Lilies and the 4 O'Clocks most of all and at night...ahhh...the Jasmine! Who could forget the lyrics from the Seals and Crofts song, Summer Breeze...

"Sweet days of summer, the Jasmine's in bloom
July is dressed up and playing her tune...
Summer breeze, makes, me feel fine,
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine,
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind."

We are a little over half way through the summer, so it will be a nice tribute to this season to show off what we appreciate most from our summer gardens. Be it delicious vegetables, or the soft, fragrant flowers that remind us of the beautiful things in life, it's all good! If by some chance you don't happen to have a garden of your own this year, then it is perfectly ok to photograph your favorite public historic garden, public garden project, or even flowers at a garden market, that are ready for summer planting. Remember, you are only limited by your own imagination! The date of this challenge will be, Wednesday, August 9th. As always, you can post anytime between the midnights of that day.

A few things to remember...

PLEASE DO NOT POST EARLY!

PLEASE RSVP BEFORE THE DAY OF THE CHALLENGE IF POSSIBLE!

THERE ARE TWO NEW RULES WHICH HAVE BEEN RECENTLY ADDED TO THE
***WELCOME ENTRY AND RULES OF PLAY*** SO PLEASE DROP BY AND FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THAT ENTRY. :)

Please R.S.V.P. in the comment thread of this entry, using this format...

Your Name
Your Blog/Journal's Name
The complete URL of your blog/journal

Now, for a little more fun! There is a really FUN an EXCITING announcement coming soon to this blog! It is going to be a neat surprise for everyone, and it is something Karen and I are so happy and excited about! So, keep checking back here, to find out what this awesome news might be! :)

Okay Robins, make me proud...GO BE PHOTOGRAPHERS! See you back here on, Wednesday, August 9th!

Round Robin Challenge: "Ye Ole Watering Hole"

This challenge is now closed. Thanks for playing! :)

Note: entries for the following Challenge should be posted on Wednesday, July 26th. PLEASE DO NOT POST EARLY! See below for details.

Hi, Robins! Our next Challenge is the brainchild of Maryanne, author of the blog Inside the Gilded Cage. It's another fun one: "Ye Old Watering Hole."

So! Are you thirsty? I know I am! When you want something cool to drink on a hot day, or hot to drink on a cool day, where do you go? Is it a favorite neighborhood bar? An old-fashioned soda fountain or diner? Do you go to Starbucks for a Frapuccino? Maybe the Dairy Queen for an ice cream float? Or perhaps you like to fix up something special yourself!

Wherever it is you like to go to wet your whistle, grab your camera, and bring us back some pictures! The challenge date is Wednesday, July 26th. As we said at the top of this entry, please do not post it early. Starting with this challenge, we will remove links to entries posted before the challenge date, unless special arrangements are made in advance.

Now, we have two other new rules, to make things a little easier on everyone:

1. Please do NOT paste the text of this entry, or any of the Challenge entries, into your own blog. It confuses people, makes your entry extra long, and often makes it seem as though you wrote the bit you're pasting. Instead, please just state the name of the topic, and explain in your own words what it means to you. All righty? Please do paste in the Linking List, or at least a link to this entry, And yes, you're welcome to use the Round Robin bird logo. But the rest of the text posted here is off limits. Sorry, but some of the quoting has gotten out of hand.

2. If you RSVP and do NOT post, your link will be removed from the Linking List once the challenge has ended. That deadline is a week after the challenge date. It's not fair to others for them to click on your link, and not find a Round Robin entry. We're happy to say that that did NOT happen this time, but it has in the past.

The other rule we want to mention is the same one we always mention. If you plan to participate, please RSVP in the comments to this blog. To make everything clear and easy, the format should be exactly this:

First Name
Name of the blog of journal where you will be posting
URL of that journal

(plus anything else you want to say, such as "Hi! I'm in!").

If you post your Round Robin entries to two blogs, be sure to list the title and URL of both. Don't make us guess which one you're using!

And of course, if you have any questions, we're just an email away:

Karen: mavarin@aol.com
Carly: ondinemonet@aol.com

Okay? Okay! Please see the Welcome entry for details on all this rules stuff. And then, as we like to say around here, go be photographers!

Round Robin Challenge: Americana

Note: entries for the following Challenge should be posted on Wednesday, July 12th. PLEASE DO NOT POST EARLY! See below for details. This challenge is now closed, thank you for playing!

Hi, Robins! Great job yesterday on our most recent challenge. Ready to do it again?

Our next Challenge comes to us from Cosette of Pandora's Bazaar. I'll let her explain:

Since it's just in time for Independence Day, how about Americana, things dealing with American history, folklore, or geography, something considered to be wonderfully typical and unique to American culture.

Brightest Blessings,
Cosette

Sounds great to me! America is so much more than flags and picnics and fireworks, although that's certainly part of what we think of when we read or hear the word "America." We're not perfect by any means, but there's still a lot to be proud of here, and a lot to love. What means (The United States of) America to you? Is it the majestic, almost infinitely varied landscape, desert and rivers, trees and lakes, canyons and mountains, from sea to shining sea? Is it that play your kid was in last year, the one with the Statue of Liberty costume and a fifth grader declaiming the Bill of Rights? Is it campaigning for a candidate, or writing letters to the editor? Is it Inuit and Navajo, native Hawai'ians and Onondagas? Is it Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill, or Washington Irving and James Thurber? Is it flags and fireworks, baseball and hot dogs, not to mention apple pie and Chevrolet? What are the visual cues that get you thinking about what America is, what it was, and what it can be?

And yes, if you're from or live in another country, we'd love the equivalent about your country. Canadiana, Britannica, etc. are all fair game here, if that's your home or adopted country.

Think it over, take your pictures, and get ready to post them on Wednesday, July 12th. That's about a week after Independence Day, so here's your chance to take some good holiday pictures and use them later. Or you may want to go in a completely different direction. That's totally up to you! The one thing we do ask is that you follow a few simple rules:

1. Do NOT post your entry early. Please wait and post it on Wednesday, July 12th, any time between midnight and midnight. If you're running late, that's okay - you can post up to a week afterward if necessary. But please don't post early!

2. DO RSVP in the comments to this blog. To make everything clear and easy, the format should be exactly this:

First Name
Name of the blog of journal where you will be posting
URL of that journal

(plus anything else you want to say, such as "Hi! I'm in!").

For example:

Yes, I'm playing. Unless I jump off a bridge first.

Billie Joe
Billy Joe's Bloggie Bits
http://bloggiebits.blogspot.com

See? Easy. If you post your Round Robin entries to two blogs, be sure to list the title and URL of both. Don't make us guess!

And of course, if you have any questions, we're just an email away:

Karen: mavarin@aol.com
Carly: ondinemonet@aol.com

Got it? Good! As we like to say around here, go be photographers!
