Round Robin Challenge: Favorite Toy

Hi, Robins! It's time to announce our next Challenge. This one comes from, well, me, and sorta-kinda continues this month's holiday theme. The topic for Saturday, December 27th is

THIS CHALLENGE IS NOW CLOSED! THANKS FOR PLAYING!

Favorite Toy

Photograph a toy that has some significance to you or a loved one. What I have in mind here is actual toys, such as might be sold in toy stores and played with by children, rather than "big boys' toys" such as ATVs and motorcycles and RVs. It could be a present your kid is getting for Christmas or Hanukkah this year and will be playing with continually well into the new year, or a toy from your own childhood that you still have (or replaced using eBay), or even something that's been handed down in the family for several generations. New or old, take its picture and tell its story!

As always, we ask you to RSVP in the comments below, and wait to post your entry until the designated day, or up to one week afterward. For your RSVP, even if you've done so before, please leave us your full information of first name or handle, blog name and blog address, thus:

Yes, I'd love to play with my favorite toy!

Nick
Times of the Toymaker
http://comingtotown.blogspot.com
Be sure to check out the Welcome Entry and Rules of Play if this is your first time with us, or it you've sat out a few rounds. Our email addresses are on the sidebar in case you have any questions, or want to suggest a future Challenge topic.

Got it? Good! Go be photographers! Pick out that favorite toy, and be ready to show it off on Saturday, December 27th!

Round Robin Challenge: Hometown Holiday Decorations

Greetings Robins :) THIS CHALLENGE IS NOW CLOSED! THANKS FOR PLAYING :)

We are heading straight for Christmas, and other holidays of December, so lets do something a wee bit different! Let's combine my love for public art, with the wonderful joys of the holiday season! Grab your cameras, and photograph the public holiday decorations around the town you live in. Or, if you like, photograph a nearby town's decorations. Oh well, any old town will do, as long as it includes some holiday decorations. Holiday banners, giant sparkly snowflakes hanging from street lights, a town square decked with boughs of holly, or a wreath strewn street. A giant animated reindeer in the middle of a shopping mall, a large Christmas tree in a quaint village, all shiny and ready for Christmas! If it is a public decoration, and celebrates the upcoming holiday season, it will be perfect for this challenge!

Save the date for this challenge, it will be played on Saturday, December 13th. As always you can post your photo entry anytime between the midnights of that day, or for up to one week late if you have to be late with your entry for some reason. It is best, however, to try to post on the day of the challenge to get the maximum visitors possible. The most important thing is not to post your entry prior to the challenge date. We don't post the Linking List until the date of the challenge, so you won't be linked to until then! It's also a good idea to double check the R.S.V.P. link to your blog for any errors before you leave it. It should look like this...

(EXAMPLE)

Carly
Ellipsis
http://ellipsissuddenlycarly.blogspot.com

It is extremely helpful to us if you leave your R.S.V.P. in this format. :) And that you double check your link! Also, if you are new to the challenges, be sure to let us know so we can welcome you properly! :)

Ok, that's all there is to it. Grab your cameras, GO BE PHOTOGRAPHERS, and comeback here on Saturday, December 13th, ready to show off your HOMETOWN HOLIDAY DECORATIONS!

Round Robin Challenge: On My Table

Pickle, My Cat

Greetings Robins! Time for your next photo challenge! We've a holiday on the way in the U.S. so keeping that in mind I have selected a topic which can be adapted for the Thanksgiving holiday. The challenge for November 29th is:
THIS CHALLENGE IS NOW CLOSED! THANKS FOR PLAYING. :)
"On My Table"

What's on your table? Photograph your table and what is on it. A meal, some books or a floral display. A center piece or a place setting for ten. Show off your table and what's on your table. Holiday themed or just a slice of your everyday living.

Be sure to read the Welcome and Rules of Play if it's your first challenge or if you've sat out a few rounds. If you need to post early - don't. Check to see if your blogging tool supports a future timed post update. Have fun, take your time, and post on the challenge due date.

R.S.V.P. in comments so we'll know how many will be at our Round Robin table. Follow my example and return on November 29th to share what's on your table!

Round Robin Challenge: Two Halves Don't Make a Whole

Hi, Robins! Are you ready for our next one? It comes to us from Nancy, of Nancy Luvs Pix. The challenge for Saturday, November 15th is

Two Halves Don't Make a Whole

Nancy explains the concept thus:

THIS CHALLENGE IS NOW CLOSED! THANKS FOR PLAYING

Photograph two different shots of the same type of thing (like a tree). Crop out half of each and make two separate photos. Put them side by side, or one on top of the other...so that they look ALMOST like one photo...but not quite. It sounds more complicated than it needs to be. It could be really fun and who knows what you could come up with here!

This one is going to require a little photo editing, but shouldn't be too hard, and it gives us a chance to play with things and stretch our skills and our powers of observation a bit. If you'd like to try it, but you're not sure how to proceed, drop us a line and we'll be glad to help!

As always, be sure to check our Welcome Entry and Rules of Play if you're new to this or have sat out a few rounds, or even if you just have a question. You can also reach Carly, Steven or myself at the email addresses on the sidebar. Meanwhile, you know how to RSVP, don't you? Just leave a comment below, looking something like this!

Yes, I'll play!

Round Robin Challenge: Food Glorious Food!

Hi Robins :)

Grab your knife, folk and spoon, and your camera of course, and show us "Food Glorious Food!" Are you a breakfast gourmet? Is lunch at your house a feast to behold? Do you serve not just food, but high cuisine for dinner? Show it off! Maybe you love going on picnics in October, or have some fabulous pumpkin recipes you enjoy cooking, or maybe you are a wonder with leftovers, well, we want to see it! Thanksgiving is coming up in just about a month or so, and I am already thinking about what to serve, and getting really hungry, so lets see what it is we are all drooling over right now! And by the way, if you have a favorite restaurant food that you would just love to show off, that's ok too!

The date for this challenge is, Saturday, November 1st. Please post your entries on the day of the challenge, or if need be, after the challenge, but DO NOT POST YOUR ENTRY PRIOR TO THE CHALLENGE DATE! We will not link to you until the day of the challenge, so it makes no sense to post early, besides as Steven says, "it's not a race!" There are exceptions to the rule. If you will be out of town, or if you have another blogging conflict, just let us know and we will make a note next to your name on the Linking List. That way, folks will be able to find your entry on the day of the challenge. If you are posting on Blogger, you can schedule your entry to post automatically on the challenge day if you like. Check with your blogging program to see if they offer a similar option.

Please R.S.V.P in the following manner...

Carly (Your First Name Or Online Handle)
Ellipsis (Your Blog)
http://ellipsissuddenlycarly.blogspot.com (Your Blog Address)

Each time you play, we must have those three little pieces of information. Also, if you are new to the challenges, leave us a little note so we can welcome you properly! If you have recently joined the great 2008 AOL Journal Migration and have a new blogging platform, please leave us a little note when you R.S.V.P. so that we can update our blog roll.

Ok, that's it. Go Be Photographers! We will be looking for your, Food Glorious Food, on November 1st!

Round Robin Challenge: The End Of Summer

Hi, Robins! It's time to announce a new Challenge, for posting on Saturday, October 4th. This topic, from Janet of the blog Fond of Snape, is one of the oldest in our suggestion pool, and yet it's completely timely for us now, 14 months later. It's called

The End Of Summer

This Challenge Is Now Closed. Thanks For Playing! :)

I'm posting this entry right around the autumnal equinox, literally at the end of summer. Kids are already back in school, and in most parts of the Northern Hemisphere the leaves are about to put on their annual show, changing from green to red and orange and yellow and scarlet.

What says the end of summer to you? Is it watching your kids get on the school bus? Is it the fall colors? A slight chill in the air, or perhaps just relief from summer heat? Putting away the swim trunks or your white shoes, and getting out the jackets and galoshes? Shorter days and longer nights? Whatever it is photograph it for us, or something that represents it; and get ready to post it on Saturday, October 4th, anytime between midnight and midnight.

Round Robin Challenge: It's Not Easy Being Green

Hello Robins :)This Challenge Is Now Closed! Thank You For Playing. :)

Are you up for a brand new challenge? You are? Cool! How about a challenge titled, "It Isn't Easy Being Green!" Julie, who blogs at, "Julie's Web Journal," suggested it for us, last May, during our last photo challenge round-up. I don't have any specific notes about what she had in mind here, so lets just go wild with this one! Green is the color... imaginations are encouraged to take it and run with it... the sky is the limit! If it is Green, and it inspires you, it's a go. Although as always, keep in mind this is a family friendly project, so consider that when you post your entry. I think this will be a nice way to say goodbye to summer, and all the Green colors that season brought us.

The date of this challenge just happens to be the second to last full day of summer for 2008! Saturday, September 20th, 2008! As always you can post any time during the midnights of that date, but DO NOT POST YOUR ENTRY EARLY! We don't add the linking list until the day of the challenge, and you won't be linked to until that time! As my pal Steven says, "It's not a race." So please observe that rule. Ok?

When you sign up to play, please leave your information in the following format...

Carly (Your Name)
Ellipsis (Your Blog or Journal's Name)
http://ellipsissuddenlycarly.blogspot.com (The Full Address Of Your Blog Or Journal)

Try to remember, we need your information each time you play, even if you have played before!

Ok, if you haven't played with the Round Robin Challenges before, please take a moment to read the FAQ page. Just scroll down a few entries to find it, or see the link on the sidebar. If you have any questions, please feel free to send an email to Steven, Karen or myself. You can find our email addresses on the sidebar. Be sure to put "Round Robin" in the subject line.

Green is the Color, Saturday September 21st 2008 is the date! See you then!

-Carly :)

Round Robin Photo Challenge: Public Art

Hi, Robins! I hope you've seen the entry Steven posted last night; if not, just scroll down when you're done here. It is an update of our Welcome entry, with an added FAQ addressing questions we've either answered before or wished someone had asked before doing something else.

This challenge is now closed. Thank you for playing!

Meanwhile, it's time to announce a new Challenge! I've wanted to use this one for a long time, but it always seemed I had some reason to put it off. The topic, Public Art, was suggested by our own Carly this past November. She describes the concept this way:

Public Art.

Every town across America has something artsy about it. Most cities have a public art program, although it may take a little bit of research to find where all the displays are located. My idea is to seek out the artsy side of the towns we live in or near, post the photo or photos and maybe write a short description of the art and the artist. If there is currently no display of Public Art in your area, then show us how your town decorates to invite visitors to your area. Banners, Welcome signs, etc.

Neat, huh? I don't know about your town, but Tucson has lots of public art, large and small, lofty, historic and sometimes just plain eccentric! In fact, I've been amassing photos of this for a while. Now I've got to go back and do the research part, and find out who made the public art, and when and why.

The date of the Challenge will be Saturday, August 23rd. As always, we ask you to RSVP below, and please don't post your entry early! Check the entry below this one for guidelines. Now go be photographers, and we'll see you all in just under two weeks, as we enjoy everyone's displays of Public Art!

Welcome To The Round Robin Photo Challenges!

The Round Robin Photo Challenge is a twice monthly photo meme designed to let you have fun, discover new blogs all while looking at photos! We select future challenge topics from a pool of suggestions contributed by the challenge participants. Have fun and enjoy sharing and viewing the Round Robin Photos!

The Rules of Play
To keep the challenge running smoothly, we have three rules we'd like you to follow when signing up and playing in the challenges.

1.) Sign Up in Comments
We ask that you leave your name, your blog's name, and your blog's address. Just like this example:

Joey Roo
A Kangaroo's Blog
Http://bouncetheblog.com/

2.) Do Not Post Your Photo Before the Day of the Challenge.
Don't post early! It's not a race. Wait until the day of the challenge to post your challenge photo. This makes it easier on everybody dropping in to see your photo. If for some reason you can't, let us know and we'll try to accommodate you.

3.) Show Up and Play!
You've gone ahead and signed up, so be sure to post your photo! Don't be a no show. If for some reason you can't make a challenge you signed up for, let us know before the challenge date.

The Round Robin Hosts
In addition to the Rules, Karen, Carly and Steven have responsibilities too. What to expect from your hosts :-)

1.) We will post new challenges on time and on schedule.
2.) We will compile a linking list for each challenge.
3.) We will cover for each other in case one or more hosts is unable to perform his or her challenge assignment.
4.) We will be supportive and understanding of each other when things go wrong.

As hosts of the Round Robin Photo challenge we will maintain the Round Robin Photo Challenge blog. We will try, as best we can, to maintain a current blogroll of participants. We will try, as best we can, to maintain a current email contact list of participants. We will have fun.

Frequently Asked Questions
Along the way we've been asked a lot of questions about playing in the Round Robin Photo Challenges. Here are the frequently asked questions:

Sign Up Questions:
Q. Why do you need my information each time I play?
A. We compile the linking list from the information you leave in comments. This makes it easier on us and the linking list makes navigating the current challenge player's blogs easier on everyone. Also, not everyone posts to the same blog every time. We hate to guess which blog you're using this time - we might guess wrong!

Q. What if I can't post my entry on the day of the challenge?
A. You are welcome to post your entry a little late, anytime up to one week after each Challenge date. Better late than never! Alternatively, some blogging platforms let you create an entry ahead of time and schedule it to be posted on a certain date. Check your blogging software for details.

Q. Will you still link to me if I forget to leave my info?
A. Not leaving your information makes it harder to compile the linking list so you might not make it. The best way to ensure you make it on the linking list is to leave your information!

Day of the Challenge Questions:
Q. When do we post our entries for each challenge?
A. The day of the challenge or anytime up to one week after each challenge

Q. I don't live in the U.S. Is it okay for me to post as soon as the Challenge date comes around where I live?
A. Yes, it's okay. But because most Robins do live in the U.S., most entries get posted on U.S. time, and most people visit each other's blog either during that time frame or soon afterwards. If you wait until the Challenge date hits the U.S., you may end up getting more visitors to your blog than if you post it at 12:01 AM your time on the Challenge date.

General Photo Challenge Questions:
Q. What do I need to do to play along with a challenge?
A. A blog, a camera, digital photos (or scans of photos) and willingness to share your creativity!

Q. Do the photos I post have to be ones I have taken myself?
A. Yes, please only use photos you have taken.

Q. Can I use other people's photos, or ones I find on the net?
A. No, please use photos you have taken for the challenges.

Q. Why are the challenges played every two weeks, rather than weekly?
A. You have time to plan, wait for the weather and get the shot! We try to keep things relaxed.

Q. Do I have to be invited to play?
A. Nope. Jump in, sign up and have fun!

Q. Are there prizes?
A. There are no prizes.

Linking List Questions:
Q. Is it OK to copy the Linking List from the RR blog?
A. Certainly! We compile the linking list to make navigation among the current challenge players easier.

Q. Do I have to comeback a second time and leave a direct link?
A. Yes and no. Carly, Karen and Steven check the linking list and update it. Sometimes we can't monitor the list as closely as we'd like so if you want to comment that you've updated it's fine.

Q. Do I have to link to everybody else who plays?
A. It's up to you. It's nice to link but it's not required. Your choice!

Photo Challenge Topic Questions:
Q. How do I submit an idea for a future challenge?
A. Email Carly, Karen or Steven. Sometimes we will use the challenges to request topics so keep an eye out!

Round Robin Photo Challenge Blog Questions:
Q: How do I get on the Blogroll?
A: Participate in the challenges!

Thanks for playing - Carly, Karen & Steven

Note: If you have any questions regarding the Round Robin Challenges, please email either Karen, Steven or Carly, do not leave your questions in the comments, and we will answer your inquiry as soon as possible. :)

Round Robin Challenge: Night Shots

Welcome Robins This Challenge Is Now Closed! Thanks For Playing. :)

We have a new challenge to meet! My RR teammate Steven, suggested "Night Shots" a while back for us to try our hands at. I thought it would be especially nice to do this challenge, while we still have some warm summer evening to experiment with.

For this challenge, "any night shot will work fine", it doesn't have to be limited to the heavens. If you want to photograph the moon and the stars that's cool. If you want to mount a telescope on a tripod and aim for Mars... nifty! But if you want to photograph a beautiful skyline of a city after dark, we will be looking forward to that too. You can show us your skills at photographing a Luna Moth, if you have them in your area, or maybe a lot of neon signs around town. Night Blooming Jasmine could be a pretty choice as well. It's all up to you, as long as your photographs qualify as "Night Shots."

The date of the challenge will be, Saturday, August 9th, 2008. As always, you can post your entry anytime during the midnights of that day, but please don't post your entry early! I bet you wonder why we ask that of you. Well, coming soon we will have complete FAQ page for you to refer to, which should answer all your questions, but for now please follow the simple rules below, that we ask you to follow most often...

1. DO NOT POST YOUR ENTRY PRIOR TO THE CHALLENGE DATE!

Note To Blogger Folks: Blogger now has a feature which allows you to schedule a posting. If you will be out of town, and you don't want to miss a challenge, you can set up your post ahead of time and schedule it to post automatically while you are away. That way you don't have to post your entry early! If you want to use it, but are having difficulty with it, send me an email and I will be happy to help you learn how to use it.

2. PLEASE LEAVE US YOUR COMPLETE INFORMATION WHEN YOU SIGN-UP TO PLAY!

Now you guys have been playing the challenges for a long time, and you all know how your information should be left for us, but just in case this is your first time playing, here is an example of how you should leave your intention to play...

Carly
Ellipsis
http://ellipsissuddenlycarly.blogspot.com

Please leave those 3 important pieces of information each time you play. It's more helpful then you know, especially when compiling the Linking List for you.

See you on Saturday, August 9th!

-Carly ;)

Round Robin Challenge: Morning, Noon, And Night

Hi, Robins! Our next Challenge, Morning, Noon, And Night, was suggested by Vicki of the blog Maraca. She describes the concept this way:

This challenge is now closed. Thank you for playing! :)

"Kinda simple, really ... photograph the same thing at different times of the day. It's an experiment in using natural light."

Looks good to me! Here's our chance to capture the many moods of the same scene as the sun rises and falls. So how about it? Will you show us the changes in mountains or oceans, towers or trees, or even people or animals, as the shadows move and disappear and return, as the light brightens and fades? And no, you don't have to photograph the scene at noon if that's not convenient. Just find the times of day and night that work best for your schedule and your photographic subject.

The Challenge date will be Saturday, July 12, anytime after midnight. Please don't post early if you can help it. And as always, please RSVP in the comments below using this format:

Yes, I'm playing!

Please check the Welcome Entry and Rules of Play if you haven't played with us before, or need a refresher on how the Challenges work. If you have questions, you can email us - our email addresses are on the sidebar. Now let's have fun finding those perfect subjects to be photographed at morning, noon and night, and go be photographers!

Round Robin Challenge: Weeds Can Be Beautiful Too!

Hi Everyone :) This Challenge Is Now Closed. Thanks For Playing :)

Save the date! Saturday, June 28th! That's the day we will play our next Round Robin Challenge:Weeds Can Be Beautiful Too! Kim, who authors the blog, Nekked Lizard Adventures, suggested this topic in our recent new topic roundup. If you have an idea for an upcoming challenge, feel free to send it to Karen, Steven or myself, and I will make sure it gets added to our challenge pool. :)

Ok, if you are planning to join us for the fun on the 28th, that would be great! If you haven't played with us before, you can find all the information you need on the sidebar of this blog. Just click on the **WELCOME ENTRY AND RULES OF PLAY**. If you have played before, you already know what to do.

Okay, we will see you back here on Saturday, June 28th!

NOTE: My usual update and blog visiting time is between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM Pacific Time on the day of each challenge, however, on the 28th I have birthday plans, and will be leaving at 3:00 PM for dinner, so, if possible, try to post your entry before 3:00 PM that day so I can be sure to get you all updated properly in the afternoon before I leave. If you can't post by that time, no worries, I will check in on things around 8:00 PM or so. :) Thanks Everyone.

Greetings Robins!
Time for your next photo challenge. This round's topic was suggested by Jennifer Robin of Robin's Woods.
"I Made That"
This challenge is now over. Thanks for playing! :)
Jennifer wrote in her suggestion entry, "I Made That - Something you made, be it food, craft, child, a mess, anything (besides the picture itself!)"

Round Robin Challenge: Tiny Things

This challenge is now over, thank you for playing!

Hello again, Robins! I went diving in our suggestion pool today, and I'm glad to report that it's positively overflowing with cool topics right now. We're also starting to see some reruns and recurring themes, with different people coming up with similar ideas, sometimes the same day! I'm sure we'll get to many of these topics in the weeks and months ahead.

For this particular Challenge, though, we're going with one that was suggested by, well, me! Way back in September 2007, I came up with the following:

Tiny Things

The idea here is to photograph very small inanimate objects - not details and closeups of larger things, but self-contained little items we see and take for granted. It should be interesting to take the expertise some Robins have with tiny critters, and apply it to objects that can't fly away. And the rest of us have the photographic challenge of learning to focus on the miniature world.

Eight months later, though, I'm thinking it was probably rash of me to exclude tiny living things, or things that were once alive. So if you want to photograph a bee, a beetle or a baby guppy, be my guest!

The date for this Challenge is Saturday, May 31st, 2008. As always, we ask you not to post before that date, whenever it arrives where you live. You may post up to six days later, but for the sake of people finding your entry, on the date is best.

To help us compile the linking list as quickly and accurately as possible, please RSVP in the comments thread using the following format:

Yes, I'll play! Come into my parlor!

Itsy Bitsy
Web of Lies
http://blog.waterspout.com

Please use the three line format as above, even if your login already includes your name and a link. Also, please proofread for typos. Thanks!

That's all for now, folks! Be on the lookout for tiny things, and go be photographers! We'll meet all back here on Saturday, May 31st, ready to view each other's tiny portfolios.
