Round Robin Challenge: Transportation (for 8/23/06)

This challenge is now closed! Thank you for playing! :)

Note: entries for the following Challenge should be posted on Wednesday, August 23rd. PLEASE DO NOT POST EARLY! See the Welcome entry for rules of play.

Hi, Robins! Our next Challenge comes from Robin, author of the blog These are the Days of our Lives.... She has chosen topic "Transportation" for our August 23rd Challenge.

Oh, yeah! I like this one! There are so many cool things to do with it. Do you have a beloved old car, or a shiny new one, or maybe even one you've been "visiting" in automobile showrooms or used car lots? Are you a trainspotter? (There's one!) Do you like watching airplanes take off, preferably on a day without a new terrorist alert? Does your town have stagecoaches, trolleys, rickshaws, or even a monorail like North Haverbrook? (That last one is a Simpsons joke.) Maybe your favorite form of transportation isn't motorized. Heck, maybe it doesn't even have wheels!

So grab your camera, and get some pictures of some favorite or interesting kind of transportation. The date to post your pictures is Wednesday, August 23rd. As we said at the top of this entry, please do not post it early. We will remove links to entries posted before the challenge date, unless special arrangements are made in advance.

If you plan to participate, please RSVP in the comments to this blog. To make everything clear and easy, the format should be exactly this:

First Name
Name of the blog of journal where you will be posting
URL of that journal

(plus anything else you want to say, such as "Hi! I'll be posting").

If you post your Round Robin entries to two blogs, be sure to list the title and URL of both. Don't make us guess which one you're using!

And of course, if you have any questions, we're just an email away:

Karen: mavarin@aol.com
Carly: ondinemonet@aol.com

That's it! Please see the Welcome entry for details on all this rules stuff. As we like to say around here, go be photographers!

Please Welcome Our New Round Robin Team Member: Steven!

Yes, it's true, as hinted to in the "Summer Gardens," entry in this blog, we have some wonderful news to share. The Round Robin Challenges has a new team member, Steven, the talented photographer and author of the blog, "(sometimes)photoblog." Steven will be joining us officially with the announcement of the Round Robin Challenge scheduled for August 24th, for the September 9th challenge. As our team member, Steven will take turns with Karen and myself in handling the responsibilities of running this project, such as writing the announcement entries, and being here to answer any questions or concerns you might have. Karen and I are excited to have Steven join us. It will be good to have a man's input regarding the challenges, and how things might run even more smoothly in the future. There may be some changes and improvements coming up, so be sure to review the "Welcome Entry & Rules Of Play" from time to time to stay up to date!

So now, without further delay, Karen and I want to say... WELCOME STEVEN! :)

Round Robin Challenge: Summer Gardens

This challenge is now closed...thanks for playing! :)

Hello Robins... Time for our next challenge!

rRose, author of the journal, "WAIT-NOTYET," has chosen a lovely new challenge for us, "Summer Gardens." rRose asks the question, "How does your Summer garden grow? With fresh vegetables, fruits, a single pink rose, or many flowers?"

Sometimes, I find myself enjoying the summer gardens more then the gardens of spring. When summer days are unbearably hot, at least the flowers make things a little more pleasant. Lately I have been enjoying the Day Lilies and the 4 O'Clocks most of all and at night...ahhh...the Jasmine! Who could forget the lyrics from the Seals and Crofts song, Summer Breeze...

"Sweet days of summer, the Jasmine's in bloom
July is dressed up and playing her tune...
Summer breeze, makes, me feel fine,
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine,
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind."

We are a little over half way through the summer, so it will be a nice tribute to this season to show off what we appreciate most from our summer gardens. Be it delicious vegetables, or the soft, fragrant flowers that remind us of the beautiful things in life, it's all good! If by some chance you don't happen to have a garden of your own this year, then it is perfectly ok to photograph your favorite public historic garden, public garden project, or even flowers at a garden market, that are ready for summer planting. Remember, you are only limited by your own imagination! The date of this challenge will be, Wednesday, August 9th. As always, you can post anytime between the midnights of that day.

A few things to remember...

PLEASE DO NOT POST EARLY!

PLEASE RSVP BEFORE THE DAY OF THE CHALLENGE IF POSSIBLE!

THERE ARE TWO NEW RULES WHICH HAVE BEEN RECENTLY ADDED TO THE
***WELCOME ENTRY AND RULES OF PLAY*** SO PLEASE DROP BY AND FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THAT ENTRY. :)

Please R.S.V.P. in the comment thread of this entry, using this format...

Your Name
Your Blog/Journal's Name
The complete URL of your blog/journal

Now, for a little more fun! There is a really FUN an EXCITING announcement coming soon to this blog! It is going to be a neat surprise for everyone, and it is something Karen and I are so happy and excited about! So, keep checking back here, to find out what this awesome news might be! :)

Okay Robins, make me proud...GO BE PHOTOGRAPHERS! See you back here on, Wednesday, August 9th!

Round Robin Challenge: "Ye Ole Watering Hole"

This challenge is now closed. Thanks for playing! :)

Note: entries for the following Challenge should be posted on Wednesday, July 26th. PLEASE DO NOT POST EARLY! See below for details.

Hi, Robins! Our next Challenge is the brainchild of Maryanne, author of the blog Inside the Gilded Cage. It's another fun one: "Ye Old Watering Hole."

So! Are you thirsty? I know I am! When you want something cool to drink on a hot day, or hot to drink on a cool day, where do you go? Is it a favorite neighborhood bar? An old-fashioned soda fountain or diner? Do you go to Starbucks for a Frapuccino? Maybe the Dairy Queen for an ice cream float? Or perhaps you like to fix up something special yourself!

Wherever it is you like to go to wet your whistle, grab your camera, and bring us back some pictures! The challenge date is Wednesday, July 26th. As we said at the top of this entry, please do not post it early. Starting with this challenge, we will remove links to entries posted before the challenge date, unless special arrangements are made in advance.

Now, we have two other new rules, to make things a little easier on everyone:

1. Please do NOT paste the text of this entry, or any of the Challenge entries, into your own blog. It confuses people, makes your entry extra long, and often makes it seem as though you wrote the bit you're pasting. Instead, please just state the name of the topic, and explain in your own words what it means to you. All righty? Please do paste in the Linking List, or at least a link to this entry, And yes, you're welcome to use the Round Robin bird logo. But the rest of the text posted here is off limits. Sorry, but some of the quoting has gotten out of hand.

2. If you RSVP and do NOT post, your link will be removed from the Linking List once the challenge has ended. That deadline is a week after the challenge date. It's not fair to others for them to click on your link, and not find a Round Robin entry. We're happy to say that that did NOT happen this time, but it has in the past.

The other rule we want to mention is the same one we always mention. If you plan to participate, please RSVP in the comments to this blog. To make everything clear and easy, the format should be exactly this:

First Name
Name of the blog of journal where you will be posting
URL of that journal

(plus anything else you want to say, such as "Hi! I'm in!").

If you post your Round Robin entries to two blogs, be sure to list the title and URL of both. Don't make us guess which one you're using!

And of course, if you have any questions, we're just an email away:

Karen: mavarin@aol.com
Carly: ondinemonet@aol.com

Okay? Okay! Please see the Welcome entry for details on all this rules stuff. And then, as we like to say around here, go be photographers!

Round Robin Challenge: Americana

Note: entries for the following Challenge should be posted on Wednesday, July 12th. PLEASE DO NOT POST EARLY! See below for details. This challenge is now closed, thank you for playing!

Hi, Robins! Great job yesterday on our most recent challenge. Ready to do it again?

Our next Challenge comes to us from Cosette of Pandora's Bazaar. I'll let her explain:

Since it's just in time for Independence Day, how about Americana, things dealing with American history, folklore, or geography, something considered to be wonderfully typical and unique to American culture.

Brightest Blessings,
Cosette

Sounds great to me! America is so much more than flags and picnics and fireworks, although that's certainly part of what we think of when we read or hear the word "America." We're not perfect by any means, but there's still a lot to be proud of here, and a lot to love. What means (The United States of) America to you? Is it the majestic, almost infinitely varied landscape, desert and rivers, trees and lakes, canyons and mountains, from sea to shining sea? Is it that play your kid was in last year, the one with the Statue of Liberty costume and a fifth grader declaiming the Bill of Rights? Is it campaigning for a candidate, or writing letters to the editor? Is it Inuit and Navajo, native Hawai'ians and Onondagas? Is it Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill, or Washington Irving and James Thurber? Is it flags and fireworks, baseball and hot dogs, not to mention apple pie and Chevrolet? What are the visual cues that get you thinking about what America is, what it was, and what it can be?

And yes, if you're from or live in another country, we'd love the equivalent about your country. Canadiana, Britannica, etc. are all fair game here, if that's your home or adopted country.

Think it over, take your pictures, and get ready to post them on Wednesday, July 12th. That's about a week after Independence Day, so here's your chance to take some good holiday pictures and use them later. Or you may want to go in a completely different direction. That's totally up to you! The one thing we do ask is that you follow a few simple rules:

1. Do NOT post your entry early. Please wait and post it on Wednesday, July 12th, any time between midnight and midnight. If you're running late, that's okay - you can post up to a week afterward if necessary. But please don't post early!

2. DO RSVP in the comments to this blog. To make everything clear and easy, the format should be exactly this:

First Name
Name of the blog of journal where you will be posting
URL of that journal

(plus anything else you want to say, such as "Hi! I'm in!").

For example:

Yes, I'm playing. Unless I jump off a bridge first.

Billie Joe
Billy Joe's Bloggie Bits
http://bloggiebits.blogspot.com

See? Easy. If you post your Round Robin entries to two blogs, be sure to list the title and URL of both. Don't make us guess!

And of course, if you have any questions, we're just an email away:

Karen: mavarin@aol.com
Carly: ondinemonet@aol.com

Got it? Good! As we like to say around here, go be photographers!

Round Robin Challenge: Flower Power

This challenge is now closed! Thanks for playing! :)
Peace Beautiful Robins...

It's time to find out about our next challenge, and that challenge will be, "Flower Power" as chosen by our friend Renee, author of the journal, "TCS2." Renee, wants us to tap into our imagination and share a little about the power that flowers have had in our lives. How they brighten our worlds, how they fill our homes with aromas which, calm us, inspire our creativity, stir feelings of romance, and in general, make our lives a little more beautiful. From wedding bouquets to edible flowers, there is a secret language that can be spoken with flowers. Sometimes we can say so much with just a single flower...like one perfect rose, given to us by a lover. This will probably be one of our most colorful challenges to date! I am really looking forward to seeing all the marvelous interpretations you come up with.

The date of the challenge will be, Wednesday, June 28. As always, you can post your entry anytime between the midnights, and for up to one week after the challenge. PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ENTRY EARLY! If you are unsure how to play, just click on the ***WELCOME ENTRY & RULES OF PLAY*** which can be found on the sidebar. That has all the information you need to become a member of the Round Robin Challenges. Also, if you haven't already done so, please read the entry titled, "We Interrupt This Program." Karen and I are trying to refresh all the information we have on past and current Round Robin members. Simply submit the required information in the comment thread of THAT entry, and you are all set. And now just one quick reminder. When you RSVP for a challenge, please leave your information as follows...

Round Robin Challenge: Emotions

Hello Robins :) This Challenge Is Now Closed. Thank You For Playing!

Here, as promised, is the announcement of our next Round Robin Challenge. Our friend and fellow Robin, Chris, author of the journal, "My Photographic Life," has chosen a very versatile subject to challenge us with, she has selected, "Emotions" as the topic of our next round of play. :)

We all have emotions...don't we? Well, unless you hale from the planet Vulcan. LOL. If that is the case, no FEAR dear Robins, you can still play along with the challenge, because while you may not actually have emotions, you know what they are, so I have no DOUBT that you will rise to this HAPPY occasion, with EUPHORIA, and a good deal of DESIRE, to meet the challenge with COURAGE. You already know playing along with the Round Robins, results in a lot of HOPE, HAPPINESS, and GlEE.

Terror should never be a part of the Round Robin experience. LOL. SURPRISE, maybe, ECSTASY on occasion, PATIENCE always, but FEAR, SADNESS, ANGST, or HORROR, simply do not have a place...unless they happen to be the emotion of choice for your interpretation. We humans run the gamut of emotions, as we live our lives. On any given day, we can go through the four seasons of emotions, because...well...that's what life is all about. Living! I just know that his challenge will be one of our best, because there are so many different emotions that we can find through the camera lens, and through our third eye.

The date for this challenge will be, Wednesday, June 14th. As always you may post your entry any time between the midnights of that day, or for up to one week following the challenge. Keep in mind, that you will have your best chance of having your challenge entry seen if you try to post on the actual day of the challenge. PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ENTRY EARLY.

Last week, Karen and I, posted a special entry. In that entry we asked for your assistance in keeping our Round Robin file up to date. If you have not stopped by that entry please go and read it now. We really do need you to leave us the following information...

Your Name
Your Journal (s) Name
Your Journal/Blog URL
Your email address

Your cooperation is vital in keeping the Round Robin Challenges flowing smoothly. We need this information so that we are up to date of all the information we need to link to you properly. Since moving here from AOL, we have lost track of some of our Robins, hopefully we can get everything back on track so that everyone has an equal opportunity to play along. Click on the link below, to read that entry and leave us your information. We appreciate it more then you know. Ok, see all of you in 2 weeks. Now go be photographers!
