Round Robin Challenge: The Hand... Untouched!

Welcome to our next challenge. For this outing, Brad, author of the blog, "We-Is," really came up with a unique and innovative theme for us, here is how he explains his idea for us...

"Take a photo of your hand. Post it untouched, without any digital enhancements. Then, tell us about your settings (and shooting conditions) and what you would do to enhance... post capture. For those of you that like to run enhancements - post that too, as a before and after."

Give the man a hand... LOL... this is a great idea for a photo challenge! So circle the date on your calendars, Wednesday, March 7th, any time between the midnights of that day is fine, or for up to one week later. Use the following example format when you sign up to play...

Round Robin Challenge: "Red"

If it's Thursday, then it must be time for the announcement of our next Round Robin Challenge! Our next topic to tackle, comes to us by way of our friend, and fellow Robin, Pamela, of the AOL journal, "My Photos," and she has chosen, "RED," as the focus of our next challenge. With Valentine's Day coming up in just one week, we should have no trouble finding a lot of RED subjects to photograph. Some possibilities might include...

1. A RED Candy Heart
2. RED Roses (Or any RED flower)
3. A RED Velvet Cake
4. RED Lips
5. Ruby RED Slippers
5 RUBIES and GARNETS

Of course you don't have to just photograph RED things associated with Valentine's Day, you can let your imagination run wild! Maybe you love fire engines, or maybe you like tomato soup... that would certainly qualify as well. So Robins, get your creative on, and come back here on Wednesday, February 21st, to meet the challenge. You can post your entry, as always, any time between the midnights of that day, but please DO NOT POST YOUR ENTRY EARLY! Round Robin Challenge: Cold ...and introducing new features!

Greetings, Robins! Our new topic comes from Janet of the blog Fond of Photography, for a Challenge date of Wednesday, February 7th. Appropriately for those of us who live in the northern hemisphere (which the last time I checked was not quite all of us), the topic is "Cold!" As Janet explains:

I chose this word because it's FINALLY gotten cold here in New England! Not that I'm happy about it...LOL! I liked it when it was warmer, but I also recognize New England wouldn't be New England without some freezing cold weather and snow. Not to mention, it kills off the yucky bugs :-) So go out and photograph "Cold"! Doesn't have to be weather, use your imagination :-)

Having been in Tucson, Orlando and San Diego in the depths of winter, after living for many years in Syracuse and Columbus, Ohio, I can testify that standards for what is "cold" vary quite a bit around the country. Nevertheless, we all know what it is to be cold, feel cold, act cold, have a cold, tell people not to be so cold, be told that we're cold (as opposed to "getting warmer") in looking for something...well, you get the idea. We keep our soda cold and our frozen dinners colder. And yes, we also skate and build snowmen if we're interested and the opportunity presents itself.

So what does cold mean to you, photographically? You have just under two weeks to go be photographers, and grab your frigid pictures!

Now, try to stay awake while I run down the rules, because right after that I have an Exciting Announcement! Okay, maybe not exciting, but interesting and helpful, I hope!

Okay, now for the allegedly Exciting Announcement! You may have noticed that we added an animated calendar to the sidebar this week to help people keep track of dates and times. Directly underneath that is a link that looks like this:

Click on that link and you'll be on our calendar page on Eventful.com. This is where we'll be posting event notices for our announcement entries (such as this one!), Challenge dates, and possibly Challenge close dates. You can use this page to check our schedule, and even sign up for reminder notices. The Eventful database is searchable, so we're hoping that people looking for online photography events will find us through this new venue. Eventful also disseminates event announcements to other social networking sites, so don't be surprised if your next Round Robin entry gets more traffic than you're used to seeing. We hope so, anyway! And yes, you can also use the site to search for concerts and plays and beer fests and conventions, or announce your own upcoming events.

Round Robin Challenge: Macro

For our second Round Robin Challenge of the New Year, John Darrow, author of the blog, "Personal Effects," has chosen a nifty new theme for us, one that will allow is to not only show off our creative talents with the camera, but our technical prowess with photography as well. John has picked, "Macro," as our subject. Here is his vision for our challenge, in his own words...

"The macro feature of the camera is explored in this challenge via the subthemes of the texture (T), color (C), reflection (R), and newness (N). You are to take 4 pictures and present each no larger than 200 x 200 pixels.

For those who know how to combine multiple photos into a singe image, the desired final format is a single 400 x 400 visual with four subsections, in this layout:

T C
R N

If you don't know how to do that, just post four separate images, where each is no larger than 200 x 200."

Sounds like a challenge to me! LOL. I need a lot of practice with doing Macro, so I will be looking forward to taking on this challenge! I hope you will too. Round Robin Challenge: "Past Vs. Present" (for 12/27/06)

Greetings, Robins!
This Challenge Is Now Closed!
Here we are again with another Challenge, this time for a posting date of Wednesday, December 27th. The topic comes to us from Connie, author of Windswept - Connie's Country Life. I'll let her introduce it:

How about: Past vs Present.
One could show

• a photo of how they looked, say, 20 or so years ago and now...
• or maybe the house they lived in, then and now...
• or their garden, then and now.

The possibilities are left to the imagination.

I like this one a lot. Pretty much everyone has old photos of something or someone that's still important to us, still a part of our lives today. Normally we don't get to use these in the Round Robin, because the idea is to take new photos based on that week's theme. But this time, we get to do both: show off an old photo, and compare and contrast it with a brand new one of the same person, place or thing. Or maybe it's a completely different person, place or thing, say an ex-husband and the current one, or your old house versus your new apartment, or the recreation you lavished your time on when you were young and foolish, vs. what you spend time on now that we're all older (and probably still foolish). Neat, huh? I know I'm looking forward to it!

Okay, now try to stay awake, 'cause I'm going to run down Da Rules again, briefly!

Round Robin Challenge: "Lights Of The Holidays"

Happy Holidays Robins... This challenge is now closed! Thanks for playing. :)

We have a brand new challenge to meet! Suzanne, author of the blog, "New Suzanne R's Life," has decided on a fun and timely challenge for us, especially during this festive season, "Lights of the Holidays." How fun! So, grab your camera's Robins, and snap those photos of sparkly Christmas trees, or the awesome lighting displays in yards in your hometown, or even the light in the eyes of someone you love, on Christmas morning. :) If you don't celebrate Christmas, no worries, you can also post photos of last year's lighting of the menorah for Hanukkah, it is the "Festival of the Lights," after all. :) And don't forget New Year's Eve fireworks as another possibility for this challenge. If it's a holiday light... it's in!

The date of this challenge will be, Wednesday, December 13th 2006. As always, you can post any time between the midnights of that day. If you haven't played along with us before, you can find the complete rules of play on the sidebar. Two important rules I want to remind you of...
